    Spring Brake Chamber Final

Just opened up the spring brake chamber as curiosity got the better of me. And "Holy Crap Batman" the drawing of the spring in the cutaway view really doesn't do that spring justice. I thought I would post a couple of pics to help people be more informed on the brake chambers.

    Spring brake chamber again

I get the feeling there are two types of truck owners, those that rebuild the spring chambers and think nothing of it and those that won't touch the spring chambers. I was just trying to give a little info for those that just want to change the whole thing and be done with it, that the whole...

    Spring brake chamber again

After asking about replacement spring brake chambers or parts and not getting much response, I started to dig into them a little deeper. I read about someone here replacing the diaphragm, but stating it had to go in upside down didn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I called Haldex and talked...

    Spring Brake Chambers

What is available for spring brake chamber replacements. It appears the diaphragms from Napa aren't exactly correct (& and my brother thinks we will die if we touch the chamber with the spring in it), and the complete chamber and stem from places online are NOS with who knows how old the...

    Removing Super Single Tires

Yes, I plan on carrying a crow bar in the truck from now on. Does the fat chic help change the tire?

    Painting the 5 ton

I have an M923A1 5 ton that has the three color camo (green, brown, black). I'm thinking of doing the paint in same color and was wondering between complete base coat then brown & black patterns, or just paint each color area (probably spray can) as needed. I have the paint pot and did my deuce...

    Removing Super Single Tires

Thanks for the info. I didn't need to remove the bead locker and will be putting the new o ring and lock nuts to use today. Actually once I started playing with the tire it wasn't too bad. Just don't want to get into a situation of cushioning the tire with my body or body parts if it starts to...

    Removing Super Single Tires

I had seen a picture of a tool for helping remove the deuce wheel/tire from the hub, it looked like a 2 pronged pitch fork. Does anyone have pictures or ideas for similar that will work on the 14.00 X 20 ? I pulled a tire off the M923A1 for the first time and used my Kubota bucket, I just won't...

    Considering 5 ton!!

Recently when driving the 5 ton I was smoothly coasting to a stop at a traffic light. Coming the other way was a pickup coasting to a stop at the light with 3 young men in it. The driver pointed to the 5 ton and started bouncing up and down and side to side in place, then he started laughing. He...

    Considering 5 ton!!

Yes, love driving the 5 ton over the deuce with the power steering and A/T. However the 5 ton is definitely a harsher ride. I notice it on the neck and back, but I'm an old guy at 63 and maybe not a problem for the young dudes and dudettes.

What does your M939 series truck weigh.

1985 M923A1 with wet kit (tank, PTO, controls, plumbing) for winch (no winch) and troop seats and bows, about 3/8 tank of fuel, hard top - 23,080 lbs

    M813A1 fuel leak under load

I had a leak at the pulse damper on the back of the pump. For a year it didn't leak fuel, but truck was losing prime when sitting for a while. Then one day it started leaking fuel out at a pretty good rate. I rebuilt it and solved the prime loss problem.

    M923 Brake Question

Just did a 1.5 mile Christmas Parade with the M923A1 and had 12 people in back, all standing. Before we started I gave them the speech about always holding on and being prepared for a sudden stop or acceleration (someone running in front or mechanical issue). The brake pedal has pretty much the...

    Placerville, CA Christmas Parade

My brother and I were honored to be part of the Placerville Christmas Parade on Dec. 7th. We had the M923A1 representing the Toys For Tots and had a Marine Major General (retired) and Lt. Colonel and other vets with wives and kids in back. A special thanks to Paul (SS member) from Cool, CA. who...

    runnin hot m923a1

Our M923A1 ran right at 180 degrees but the fan never came on. Replaced the fan clutch actuator and now the fan comes on. I had to run it uphill quite a few miles at about 95 degrees out to get the fan to come on. Yes, check for stuck thermostat or clogged radiator.

    Sold One of the Deuces

Sold one of the Deuces on Saturday. After having 6 and finding my brother (and me as I get older too) was losing interest in driving or working on them, we decided to thin the herd over the past year or two. We are down to one Deuce and a 5 ton. What a neat site this is and a benefit to tell...

NHC 250 Inj Pump fuel leak

Cummins dealer was very helpful. Replaced all parts in the damper and changed the fuel inlet fitting O ring. No leaks and will have to give it time to see if the prime issue is solved.

NHC 250 Inj Pump fuel leak

I ask these questions first to avoid a gotcha or oh crap moment like " be careful there's a spring that flies out when you remove it, once you break the seal, or no user serviceable parts inside". I found the fuel pump damper parts view in the TM and removed it no problem. Going to Cummins...

NHC 250 Inj Pump fuel leak

Our M923A1 runs fine but seems to need priming the fuel pump after setting for a month. Not a big deal until today when I noticed fuel dripping from the back (cab side) of the pump when idling. If my research is correct it's coming out of the fuel damper on the bottom. Doesn't appear to be...
