    M1028/1008 Ring and Pinion Gears

If it's shifting into third, with stock gears, transmission and tire size, you will hit top gear redline at 71 or 72mph (I don't remember the calculations exactly). 35mph should find you at relatively low RPM in third, or pretty maxed out in second, which is why I asked.

    M1028/1008 Ring and Pinion Gears

Is your truck shifting into third gear?

    Smokey 1009

It's unburned fuel. My suspects would be glow plugs, glow plug controller, and then HPCA (cold advance) solenoid.

    Dual Glasspacks

Offering opinions is good, but it's a bit better when there is some stated basis in fact. Don't take my comments as being leveled straight at you, because they're not. There's a full six pages of drivel, in addition to the multiple pages of drivel in this poor kid's other threads.

    Dual Glasspacks

Is all the threadcrapping really necessary? Yeesh, the guy is new, asking for advice. Yeah, he doesn't have a CUCV yet, so what? Nobody else has ever had questions they wanted answered BEFORE they jumped in and bought something? Yeah, he wants to modify it. Gasp. If it's not your name on the...

    starter issue

Alrighty, I'll ask- if the starter is converted to 12v, what the heck is the point of keeping the 24v system? The starter is the only thing that's really worth keeping 24v for. The way you're describing, running the starter off the first battery, results in the second battery and alternator...

    remote mount turbo

Yeah, it's common in turbo'd 6.2s, but it's also common in non-turbo 6.2s. I could see the added cylinder pressure of the turbo doing more damage to a crank with a failed balancer (although, at the end of the day, the balancer was the problem, fix it and you'd be fine), but the locations of the...

    Bumper / Tow hook height?

If you feel like coming down here to measure, feel free. If you don't, I *might* be up in Chester, NJ to see my girlfriend for New Years, if it can wait. Otherwise, you could make an appointment to preview one of the trucks over at Picatinny, and bring a tape measure.

    Fuel injected or carburated?

It's a locker. Don't take this the wrong way, but before you even *think* about adding a turbo, it would be beneficial to understand the various components under the hood and their functions, it's unclear that you've done this at all.

    Advantages of 24v

They may, I have no idea. Obviously there's some other variable at play, because otherwise the two engines should start the same.

    Advantages of 24v

Are you implying that your buddy's CUCV is 12v? Has his ever *not* started when he needed it to? Are his batteries older than yours? I'd think a 24v HMMWV 6.2 and 24v CUCV 6.2, holding all else constant (like battery health) would start about the same.
  12. H

    Advantages of 24v

Meh, you could just run a dual voltage system (like on the CUCV) to run 12v bulbs without issue, and without regard to the voltage used for the starter. I'd say the bigger issue is parts and components commonality and expense. The more obscure the component, the more expensive it is, so it's...

    4 humvee wheels/tires on ebay for $270

That guy has been listing them on eBay for some time now, makes sense, since Hooks/Texarkana is always selling off those wheels/tires. $270 for the wheels and tires, plus $250 for shipping, plus spacers, plus... and I'm glad I just went with tires that fit on the stock 16s.

    remote mount turbo

Crank snapping is mostly due to a failed harmonic balancer. Block cracking is mostly due to the alloys used. These are issues with or without a turbo. That's what I thought, just wanted to be sure, since somebody mentioned a deuce.

    remote mount turbo

Just to be clear, are we talking about a CUCV or a Deuce?

    Is DOT 3 Fluid OK?

Short version: unless you think you're going to NEED the DOT5's benefits (higher boiling point, heat/cold resistance), it's stupid to run it. It's more expensive, more likely to lead to corrosion in the system, easier to get full of bubbles, and gives crappy, crappy pedal feel (this is why most...

    Is DOT 3 Fluid OK?

DOT5 does not absorb water. The water therefore collects at the lowest point(s) of the system (wheel cylinders and calipers) instead. That's one of the many differences between silicone fluid and regular brake fluid.

    remote mount turbo

My buddy and I poked around under my truck to see what we could do, as we highly considered this for one of his trucks. I don't want it because of the off-road use I put my truck through, but for his it'd be OK I think since he basically only drives on road. 2 small turbos would be preferable...

    4WD not engaging- Grinding gears

Next time you're having trouble shifting out of 4L, try putting it in drive, dribbling forward a couple feet, stop, shift back to neutral, and try to shift out again. Every once in a while I've had mine not want to come out of 4L, but bumping into drive to realign stuff always has managed to...

    remote mount turbo

Running lean won't cause the same issues on a diesel as it would on a gas motor (diesels don't really mind running lean that much) but I still wouldn't recommend it, as if you're running lean, you do risk the high exhaust temps causing damage, but you also aren't making as much power as you...
