Well...the tranny went last night in my M1009

Also, as others have already pointed out, you may dodge the rebuild by simply servicing the transmission yourself. It's a messy but simple job. A service kit at NAPA will include the transmission pan gasket and filter and will run you around $12. Then you'll need around 5 qts of Dexron tranny...

Well...the tranny went last night in my M1009

In almost any town there is a transmission guy that will rebuild a TH350 or a TH400 for $500 or less. Both of them are non-overdrive tranny's and don't require any special tools to rebuild - it's a very simple job for a transmission guy compared to all the automatic-overdrive units that are the...

Made it home with my new 1009

Door sill plates, good excuse for a pick-n-pull run.

Scored an M1009 today, now for the wait...

Yep - forgot to update, it took about 12 days IIRC.

    Heater question

Thanks for the heads-up, I'd planned on replacing the switch. What heat I get is warm air. Even with the fan only working on High, it never gets too hot in there. I'll have to check the vent/blend door and make sure it's moving through it's full range of travel.

    Heater question

The heat works fine with the fan-speed on "high" but it never gets so hot that I have to turn it down. There's something wrong there that I can't pin point.

    Rough Country Lift Kits

The last K5 I lifted was a 76 with a Rancho 2.5" lift kit, springs front and blocks rear. I used their RS5000 shocks. It was a gasser with the 350/TH350 combo that I added the Edlebrock Performer cam/intake/carb to the engine when I had it rebuilt. It was my daily driver for 8 years and the...

    Rough Country Lift Kits

Sorry, I've got to go against the grain. A lift kit with new springs on front and blocks for the rear is the way to go, unless you are wanting to off-road the truck in the extreme. And if that is your plan, you'd know more about what you're asking - and that is not a slam to you at all. I'm...

    Transmission Shift indicator CUCV

I got lucky buying one for my civvy Blazer and scored a 3-speed auto shift indicator from LMC, or maybe it was from Classic Parts, but it has the rare red pointer. Got it for the going rate, $38.50.

Mirrors removed from windshields in M1009s...

Mine was off. I stopped by an auto glass shop and let them glue it back on for $7. I don't know if it'll last any longer than AutoZone glue though...

    Heater question

I need to change out or maybe just clean the contacts on my heater/fan controls - as it is, the fan only works in the High position. Anyway, I do have limited but operative heat now. But running on High, it does not get to "run you out of there" heat. It does get comfortable, but Alabama...

    Transmission Shift indicator CUCV

That's true, but they don't break off in a vacuum. Too often the shift indicator and/or other dash parts aren't installed correctly so that when the clear overlay is put on and the gauge bezel installed there is a bind and the shift indicator rubs the clear overlay. If you get them lined up...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

I've been following your build, gotta say - excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail.[thumbzup]

    Transmission Shift indicator CUCV

You can get those at the pick and pull for a few bucks apiece. Best bet is out of a 70's truck, those were before the overdrive transmissions and it won't matter if it comes out of a truck with a TH350 or TH400 - it's just counting clicks.

    Para Cord Steering Wheel Wrap

I put an autozone cover on mine, but judging by the response, he should quote a price and turnaround time.;-)

    rear window problem

The rear window crank will work with or without a lock present. There is a c-clip lock on the back of the crank that probably broke and rendered yours useless. I just replaced the entire mechanism on my civvy Blazer, it's not hard at all. LMC truck catalogs have an excellent exploded view of...

The rear plug by the pintle hitch

If there is an adapter to convert it to a standard 4-pin plug I'll keep it. But that's where my tag is going and I'm switching to a regular receiver hitch.

The rear plug by the pintle hitch

What is it for? It looks like it has a quick disconnect just behind the bumper. I want to remove it and the pintle to make room for my tag, but I'd like to know what it is first.

LMC Rear Window Regulator Goes Out In Record Time!

I have a civilian 2wd K5 and needed a new manual rear crank. I ordered one from them and it never shipped. When I called, they said they received a bad lot of them and were looking for a new supplier. They gave me the choice of a refund or mailing it out when they found a new source. I...
