I solder and use shrink wrap where I can, but I do keep the liquid electrical tape around. It works great when you have to "T" into a wire and want to solder the connection.
I've thought about this but haven't done it, thought I'd share it here. Big rig fuel tanks mounted on a utility trailer can be used for pickup and storage. If you have a pump too, I'm sure you could find someone to give it to you. Twin 150/gal tanks mounted in an M105 could handle months of...
I don't mean to be a smarty, and don't know your father's mechanical mindset. But if he taught you good mechanical skills, wouldn't you, the truck, and your fathers advice/memory be better served by using your skills to set the truck up NOT to blow up low-revving diesel engines? An overdrive...
akonitony, I'm not sure you are wrong. I drove a 1983 K5 305/TH700R4 to college, it'd been in the family since new. The transmission died around 125K. I got two quotes on the rebuild and I remember the more expensive quote was 'with the later model upgrades,' this was 1989 or so. But the...
If you have 3.08 gears and 32" tires the lock/unlock may be normal due to tall gearing, depends on the speed its doing it at. If you get up to 70 to 75 mph on level ground it should be turning enough rpm not to stop hunting.
That may be gospel, I'm no MV guru and I haven't seen any part numbers for springs or any otherwise hard data there. But I have done this before and I do know how to buy the suspension I want - this one is a great recipe for a soft ride over 33x12.50's.
I'm a little spoiled, I've done this once before on a 4x4 K5 and it works really well. I've also done this to my 79 2wd K5, love it. The after-market springs out there now give a great ride and perform better.
That explains a LOT about used cars. No, I don't do that. I've never done that. I was taught better. From what I've read up to this post, you seem to be relying on your personal instincts about your mechanics integrity. Who seems to be a pretty good guy, I'll trust you on that, but he can...
The suspension and shocks will run right at a grand before rebuilding the front end. But it will pay big dividends on ride quality, steering, and overall road manners. And it will clear 33x12.50's to boot.:driver:
