    M1009 transfer case fluid

Note - putting gear oil in transfer case is an old trick to quiet a noisey one needing repairs. Usually to sell to unsuspecting buyer. When you flush it and put ATF back, you may find it is noisey. -? or someone made a mistake - drained ATF and did not notice was not gear oil??

    vehicle security

If the batteries were good, they can be restored to almost as good as before they got deep cycled by trickle charging with 1/2 wave rectifier at about 1-2 amps for days. Have to break down the sulphation. Cheap 1/2 wave rectifier charger works best. The brief spikes break down the sulphation...

need some help choosing a truck

Too bad. If it is still there when you buy what you want - you can buy spare parts off it.

need some help choosing a truck

Junk yard - don't offer - see what he wants - probably do better that way. Often they want 30- 50% over what they get as scrap. I would make sure engine is not blown, trans, transfer case - big stuff operable unless you get it for parts. Like you said if you need to buy or rebuild major parts...

    6 year old gasoline...

I would use containers approved for gasoline, if it smells like you say DON'T put it in any gasoline powered engine you like. Properly filtered, should be ok to mix as per my post 4. What kind of oil? new or used? How is the diesel? If it was me, I just might fill my tanks with the diesel, take...

    6 year old gasoline...

Heath, depending on the tank vapor control/venting system, and how much moisture got in tanks, Gasoline and Diesel may be fine, especially if gasoline is pre ethanol. I would sample and see what looks & smells like. If the Diesel is clean, and smells normal - I would fill my tank, and bring...

    deuce wheel stud

I agree - I would never bring the 5or 600 ft/lb torque wrench- too big.. That stays in the garage.

    My Crew Cab Deuce Build

Another advantage of bolting it vs welding is you can easily install civy cab isolator mounts if you decide to soften the ride and reduce vibration bit in the future. Just need mounts washers and longer bolts.

    Brake hose failure...new hose!

Just for kicks, when you are done making repairs, fire her up and stand hard on the brake pedal for 30 seconds. I do that at least once a month on all my vehicles. If it blows, would have when you needed to hit brakes hard.

    deuce wheel stud

I have a torque wrench that goes to 500. The method we described works well in the field. 170# and 2 feet out is close. At home, DH post 31 - torque stick is good enough. Here is a torque wrench that will do the job. Wright 0-600 Ft. Lbs. Dial Type Torque Wrench 6470 Regular Price: $884.32...

    deuce wheel stud

Whoa! TM -"325 to 350 pound-feet". Dressed, with boots, I weigh about 210 pounds. Most of you are probably in that range. If I figure right, standing on the bar about 19 inches from the center gets me in range. End of 5 foot bar is more than 3 times 350 ft/lbs max. DH - My response is to post...

Parallel operation of MEP-002A or MEP-003A, with video

For Vietnam, we put a lot of ships that were mothballed at the end of WWII back into service. I was on a Victory. When in port, we needed both alternators to unload cargo. We did not have a syncroscope, and paralleled with lightbulb, exactly as Sewerzuk did. The incoming alternator has to be...

    vehicle security

How it's done - so much for battery and fuel disconnects. 5 seconds and GONE www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn2G5HTxpxM That's why I put it in 4 wd low, axles locked, trans in park, parking brake set.

    vehicle security

When I am in an area of concern, I put my civy gas engine truck in 4wd LOW, turn wheels sharply toward curb, activate a fuel cuttoff, and set parking brake. Then the steering wheel lock goes on brake pedal and wheel. This means it won't start. If they want to tow it, they have to find a way...

Mysterious battery killing power drain solved

Since an alternator has slip rings, not a commutator like a generator, there is no bad spot. If the rotor windings have a short, it would be present all the time, in any position. Even with bad windings, if all 6 of the diodes are good, no power will be drawn when not running. Doghead is...

M1008 kicks off a helluva day!

I agree - no AC stuff and no air pump junk in the way - unless the bolts were all rusted up and I broke some off, with my tools, unlikely it would take me much more than a couple hours to scrape off old gaskets, change pump and thermostat, flush, refill and bleed system. BUT - If I was broke...

M1008 kicks off a helluva day!

" didn't have the impact for the fan/clutch removal" I have done without it! Tightened the fan belt lots, so it didn't slip, and load of engine was holding pump from turning much. Put a box wrench on bolt, few whams with my trusty ball peen, came loose. Used wrench on one bolt and jammed against...
