I took off the stock front bumper & built a new one to accomodate a 17.5k winch with 3"x3"x.25" angle, nicely done. I cut the stock brackets off the brush guard & I will weld it back on tonight with some more angle brackets. I still have to put outer support brackets on the new bumper.
I'm...
B&M makes some nice coolers. I believe they are the "stacked plate" type. They're much tougher than the older Hayden-type models. If you anticipate the possibility of any sort of rocks/sticks coming from the road or wherever, go with the stacked plate design.
I'm installing a huge winch & a number of other accessories (for heating WVO)in my M1009.
What I'd like to do is ease the burder on the main alternator/battery if possible. To that end, if I hookup the positive of the winch to the correct terminal on the front battery will I in effect be...
HF / NT aren't bad for things like wrenches, but anything with moving parts is a gamble at best! I used to have a variety of impact tools, drills, sanders, etc. from both. They're all dead after only occasional use.
The Hobart is a very decent machine though, despite where you buy it...
Its likely your regulator having troubles b/c its worn slap out. That is likely exacerbated by your channel felts rotted out.
But definately try & lube it first. Silicon lube works great on window felts & doesn't oil up the glass.
I had the exact same thing, along with other fuse panel issues. The fuse panel looked kinda nasty where the heater fuse was. I bypassed the fuse panel w/ an inline fuse & haven't had any problems since.
Also, if you are having more fuse panel problems, AutoZone sells a great little helper...
Good luck!~ I just went down this road, wasted lots of money from companies that supposedly have the right felt. You'll likely end up having to order the whole channels from LMC.
The bottom few inches of the channels are likely rotted anyways.
Very good advice from Warthog. I'd also recommend removing the wiring harness @ the firewall & clean out the connections on both sides. Mine were covered in a black goo, that I can only guess to be old, burnt, dirty, decrepit dielectric grease.
Electrical contact cleaner is a great thing!
On my M1009, the brake lights didn't work until I bypassed the fuse block & used an inline fuse. The right side of the fuse block was very nasty looking. The main headlight switch below it was far worse. The heater fan switch was worse still.
Wiggle the fuse & see if the lights come on.
I managed go get my M1009 stuck way worse than that on Tuesday night in far less mud. :) There didn't appear to be much mud, but the grass just sunk in. I wasn't even up to the axles, but the mud was super slick.
I tried to get it out w/ the neighbor's Passport, no go. I had to call...
The brand of oil you use really isn't that important if you change it when you should. Clean SuperTech is 10x better than 6,000 mile Rotella. :)
Just my $0.02.
A buddy of mine & I went for a ride yesterday about sunset. He rode my old 4 wheeler & me in my M1009. I must say that I'm quite impressed at its off-road capabilities! Many times I was crawling around where I probably shouldn't have been & it never let me down.
We never did find the...
