Question for those that have done a turbo mod

It can be done without a big headache with the engine in place. It would be easier to remove passenger side fender to do the conversion than to pull engine.

    454 for power in an '85 m1009

I would say that the power steering pump will bolt to the BBC as long as it had a long water pump on it. As for the wiring harness, I would use what you have. If truck has been converted to 12 volt then the starter part of the wiring is done. The BBC has the starter in same spot as the diesel so...

    Dually H1 wheel question....pic request

Wow that truck is a beast! I'm surprised you had to trim the fenders. If you unbolt those dually fenders from the box is there enough flange there to go with some aftermarket 4x4 fender flares?

    Color of this M1008?

That truck was sold out of Ft Leonard Wood this summer and it went for over 3 grand without doors. It was a clean truck, but...... Shortly before that this truck was also sold from same base. While I Dont believe these 2 are the same color, it does seem like trucks coming out of that base are...

Did you buy that truck? I was going to bid on it when it came up but it went way to high for my taste. I do like the color though

    My new M1008

Thanks for the tip Goldy, I did check for vacuum after the throttle valve and had a good.pull there at the rubber hose. When I get back t home I will dig into that more. I almost left my hot rod in Arkansas in favor of bringing this truck home on the trailer so I can work on it but the car won...

    My new M1008

Well that's why I liked this truck. To do the duramax conversion it will get all the wires stripped out and a new style instrument cluster installed. But now that everything is functional, I will have to keep hunting for a stripped down truck. I thought for sure the glow plug card was going to...

    My new M1008

Well I won this one out of the base at Hooks Texas. The auction listing had very poor pictures to say the least. Was listed as a non runner, and the pics made it look worse than it actually is. I won it last august, and just finally got to see it this weekend. My Dad lives in Arkansas so when...

    My 85 M1008 restoration project

Yes it works. There is a guy in AZ I called who makes gaskets out of copper. He cuts then with a nc mill. Total charge for a pair I was quoted like 175$. The price was high because he was going to charge me a programming fee because he has never cut them before. But anyways, use copper. It is...

    My 85 M1008 restoration project

Not speaking from experience here, just going by what others have said and done, .125 or an 1/8 of an inch will get you where you need to be. Any thicker and you might have clearance problems with the frame rail. Its pretty tight in that area. Make sure you have it cut out of copper sheet and...

    My 85 M1008 restoration project

I have an aftermarket Banks kit on mine, found a good deal on a used kit that came with a passenger side manifold which is a lot easier to use then the 6.5 manifold. With the GM 6.5 manifold, some of the guys are using 2 manifold gaskets stacked to get clearance for the injectors and some guys...

    My 85 M1008 restoration project

Very nice start to a good looking truck. Looks like your Dad does good work! Let me know when he is done with your truck. I will send him one of mine to start on. If you are going to put bigger tires on that truck then for sure you will want that turbo installed. I have 37s on a truck and...

What oil should I use? A link to some seriously good research on the subject.

Great article, well worth the time to read. This is my favorite quote from it: "Castrol GTX 5w30 and Valvoline Premium 5w30 I would run only in a lawn mower I hated."
