Um, the cylinder on the side of the starter with all the wires attached to it is the solenoid. It has nothing to do with the bendix gear inside.

I'm given to understand from discussions on the 6.2L Diesel engine forums (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?daysprune=&f=20&s=) that this engine is not the best candidate for straight VO use without a dual tank system and lift pump.
