Based on my 7 glow plugs that burned out, I would add bypassing the 24 to 12v resistor. Apply pure 12v in place of the hybrid circuit to the glow plug relay with 60g plugs.
Its not a bad thing, but actually a good one. it improves suspension and driveline geometry vs blocks in the rear. It's only visually different from factory, and less noticeable with a load. The axle center point and wheel will be slightly forward in the wheel well.
The HD springs are what I...
I believe that this can be compensated for by adding the ORD zero rates. They allow adjustment of the axle position. This can be helpful on the front axle to gain clearance at the rear of the wheel well/ fender.
I have had no leaks at all. I run the metal valve stems as well. The wheel donor truck was a late 70s GM 1ton. Keep im mind the older Ford wheels will work. Be sure its a 16.5" and not a 16. Most people prefer a wider wheel for the mud. My goal had less to do with playing in the mud.
My wheels are factory GM wheels I got for $50. I wanted to keep the rotating mass at the wheel assy. low vs beadlock, runflats, spacers/re welded centers. More details in signature. My spare is a factory ford wheel. My 37"s are radials, they ride great. I hear some of the Bias 36"s aren't as smooth.
I never balanced my 37s. If the truck has sat for a while it takes a few miles to roll out the flat spots. Other than that rides great, you'd never know they weren't balanced.
I dont think adding lift and tires will wear anything out, I have found my truck to be rather sturdy. For how you plan on using it I would have zero concern for lift / tire related wear or failures.
I went the cheap route for my lift, details in my signature. The only thing I may do in the future would be crossover steering. I would lift it to add taller tires. It greatly improves the ride, and drops the sky high rpms while on the highway.
FWIW, mine blows black under heavy load as well: hills, heavy payload etc. If it's running, starting well, no coolant in oil, and not burning a lot of engine oil I would not worry about it.
I do admit I am not familiar with the hazing you mentioned. The white exhaust could be condensation...
Thanks for the replies. I have now by passed the resistor as described. All 8 are new, with images of the old below. Hopefully they will never look like this again.
I recently discovered that 7/8 of my GPs are no good. I managed to get AC 60Gs for $9.25/pc. Your solution here seems simple, and is one I want to apply before installing my new plugs. I have a history on this truck of being electrically challenged.
Do you have a picture of your wiring, or...
It's probably not a huge problem, but why chance it? I have a Pella oil extractor that I would use to set the correct level by pulling oil from the dipstick tube.. Next choice, drop the drain plug briefly. These engine are cheap as diesels go, but oil is cheaper even if you waste some.
How...
The Glow Plugs may still be good. I checked mine today amazingly only 2 were good. It doesnt take long. Below is part of the procedure I used and the link to the TM. IIRC it was page 2-65.
