    Sparks fly when connecting batteries

Check that the starter lead is not shorting out on starter heat shield and is connected correctly, had that happen once. Is starter solenoid is stuck on in run out position? Is glow plug relay stuck on? Two other things to check that would draw a lot of amps.

Well blew another head gasket :(

Referring to std types, almost noted, unless you have the studs, but did not bother/or review all the tread.

Well blew another head gasket :(

Felpro head gaskets have sealing bead, and are supposed to be installed dry. Besides new gasket, you should use new head bolts, as these are 'torque to yield',

    Block Heating ... How long?

The pole choices seem limited. I usually plug in block heater in the diesel (CUCV, Dodge or Mercedes) I'm going to use that day if the temp is lower than 20F. They will all start below that, but start quicker and smoother with the heater. Temps closer to 0F, I won't start up cold without...

*Feeler* I'm looking at rebuilding cucv alternators and eventually starters

If you decide to get into alternator and starter rebuilding, there are often professional test benches for sale on ebay, or auto parts stores and shops going out of business. That would give you better product assurance than static testing. If there is a type of unit you would focus on, like...

    Lack of power at speed.

If crankcase ventilation system is working as it should, there should be a slight vacuum at oil fill cap. If the positive pressure gets too high, oil leaks start, and seals fail. Worn piston rings rings is another cause of blow by.

    CUCV oil leak

Also, confirm it is not dirty fuel. Leaks return lines, IP, etc, often look like oil once they have dripped down the engine, and can end up pretty far from where the leak is occurring by the time they hit the ground. Any fuel in the valley under the intake manifold? that would drip more on...

    Door Seals ....

Having replaced seals in several of these from different suppliers, I have found the best fit and quality to be Precision Mfg's products. This goes for door seals as well as windshield etc. LMC used to supply Precision seals with their kits, but the last one I got was from Thailand or...

Best guesses at a restored m1009's value in 2018 and beyond

If you are looking to preserve current value, or keep long enough for value to increase in any collector vehicle, factor in the cost or use of space to keep stored indoors, at least in winter. Any rust free vehicle in wet and snowy areas will only remain rust free and valuable with effort. One...

Well blew another head gasket :(

Maybe time to invest in coolant system tester. I just got a Stant 270 12207 used on ebay for $45 (new they are around $150). Stock adapter w set fits CUCVs. There are a couple other good brands, for sale all the time used, or you can get shiny new imported one for similar price(not what I'd...

    M1009 Brake Issue

If you had a mix of DOT 3 or 4 with 5, and it was in there long enough to get mixed up, and everything else is good, might be good to follow you first guess and replace the master cylinder. The silicon and alcohol based brake fluids do bad things to systems when mixed. Bleed everything out...

    Fire extinguisher recall of Kidde

Best price on pro grade ones I found was from a restaurant supply place, webstraunt.com or something, they sell Buckeyes mostly. Good to have variety of sizes so you don't have to empty a 10 pounder on a little welding fire. Also agree good to have some CO2 ones around. They are more...

Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity - this study says NO.

^I'd be SOL, as I primarily drink beer. That is kind of strange though, all the trucks I've worked on, the rear wheel bearings are supposed to be running in gear oil, and some of them went back into the 1950s. From what I can see by searching, the use of corks were pretty much limited to M...

Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity - this study says NO.

That's a new one on me. Is that a joke, like blinker fluid? (seriously).

    Gen 2 issues

Does your heater blower work? What is condition of fuse and fuse holder that blower circuit is on? This is same circuit as gen 1 exciter lamp, a bad fuse contact, or shorted blower resistor can cause problems with charging circuit.

ok truck idles, then drives, then acts like it is out of fuel and dies

Another test for clogged fuel sock: Blow compressed air down fuel line and listen for bubbling in tank, if there is an improvement in performance, you have temporarily unclogged sock and need to clean tank.

Make sure there is no continuity between ground stud and alternator casing with ohm meter.

MEP-16D and panel back-feed, how to wire including 240v for well pump?

I have a 701, or 16B, I believe the hook up is the same as yours, if so; Put voltage selection switch behind control panel in the 240V 1 Phase position. Your hot legs on this set for that setting should be L-1 & L-2. You need to confirm with a load drawing volt meter such as an electrician's...

Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity - this study says NO.

Now I'm confused, I look at the tubs in my shop, and the old ones were Rotella T-3, the ones I just picked up are T-4. There is now only the T-4 available from my supplier. Probably will just continue to change the oil at good intervals and not think about it too much. The first link did not...
