Any time I've resurrected a Chevy truck that has been sitting that long outside, I've had to goop the mouse nests out of the heater box, etc, get rid of mousy interior insulation and interior paint, just to de stinkafy.
Consider buying a pack of disposable gloves too. They are kind of like medical gloves, change them when they rip get to greased up, keeping work and tools clean, as well as skin, liver, etc.
The above chart is handy, For my purposes, I need a fuel additive that will help my old diesels without messing up my new ones, as I fuel from a transfer tank in the back of one of my trucks.
Every time I go on to dieselplace forum, I get a fake firefox update and other suspicious computer behavior. I appreciate the fact that this site is well maintained and that sort of this is rare here.
I agree to fix known problem first, however, since the #1 alt is excited by the same circuit as the blower motor, the above may be relevant.
If the wiring has been really hacked up on a CUCV, I find the easiest way to make it right is to replace the wiring harness with a stock one. They show...
I just went around house & vehicles and found 8 affected units, entered the numbers on the kidde recall web site. Had trouble with date code on a couple of older ones, which just had 4 digit year. Called them up and was told to enter three 0s plus last two digits. So 2002 would be 00002, etc...
Welcome to the site. Sounds like yours was converted to 12V, which is not necessarily bad, but the 24 V would serve you well in winter where you are.
Charge, check and load test batteries first. Also check terminals and grounds. Might be good to confirm you have the right starter for the...
"We will sell no wine before its time" Just joshing on your new avatar. Is that the same guy? (Orson Wells)
Anyway, if that seems out of line, have been working on my kid's Volvo today, my apologies.
If you can't back it out with a reverse drill and extractor (defiantly try the drill first), you can use drill it out and use a correctly sized Helicoil. I had to do this years ago on my first 6.2 shortly after I bought it. The repair lasted years until the truck was retired due to rust...
I know several guys who swear by oil undercoating, spray it on with oil undercoating gun every fall.. Used oil is free, but more of a mess for sure. Cheep new oil, such as generic 10W hydraulic oil does as good a job with much less mess. Used hydraulic oil would be my choice over used motor...
Not really a comment on seafoam, but your advice in the past to any one who posts of symptoms of head or head gasket damage has been to take apart motor and do a proper repair (not bad advice).
Have you considered hooking up a gauge just to check oil pressure? It does not have to be a...
There is a member of this forum, antennaclimber, who sells an improved version of the glow plug circuit card, in the larger black plastic box under the dash. From your symptoms, it is likely yours is bad.
As a collector, it would ruin it. If for a work truck, it would depend on what motor and tranny were in it, and if installed correct. If it has a Ford 7.8 and an Allison, for instance, it might be a great truck.
If it is a hack job, I'd leave it where it is.
No, it is not normal to have fuel fumes or exhaust smoke in the cab. Fuel from leaky return lines, or oil smoke from leaky valve cover gasket, burning off exhaust manifold will make fumes. Leaky exhaust with holes in floor would let another type of fumes in. Neither one is OK, so please fix...
I recall that when mine failed, dark goo oozed out of it, the kind used in older transformers. That night make breaking one open for a look a little more involved than just getting off the cover.
That points to a transformer failure, I guess.
Well, sir, the only smoke free diesel I own and maintain is a Tier 4 in a new and fairly expensive machine. The other 16 or so trucks and machines smoke to some degree. By the way, this topic did come up before, and the answer was not as conclusive. Now that someone is on the forum that can...
