Check engine light on m1088a1 (limp mode?)

2000 should have the older style polarity box. Just a bunch of diodes that protect against reverse polarity. If you have 12 and 24 volts at the power panel then its working. The green pcb power panels go bad the soldering is lousy on some of them and you get intermittent electrical issues. But I...

    Engine speed sensor question

If it has the copper coil coming out of it then its bad. Got too close to the flywheel. I might have a good used one.

    Wandering Neurons' wandering steering

I haven't had to replace a steer box yet. Have to look in the manual at the replacement procedure. I think it can be swapped without pulling the radiator.

    Wandering Neurons' wandering steering

If the engine is running and you have weak steering while stopped it's the power steering pump or box. If there is play I would think it's the box over the pump. Did you check the power steering fluid level? If so how does it look/smell?

    Wandering Neurons' wandering steering

When stopped with engine running can you run the steering wheel smooth in both directions and the tires follow without play? From your description it sounds like a bad steering box or bad/worn front end components. Check the tie rod and steer bar for any play. I have a steering box on hand.

    A not-so-funny story (hz)

I talked to a guy the other day. Called me for parts for the 60kw gen he just got off GL out of Ohio. 816. With a LCD style control panel that didn't work anyways. No idea it was only 400hz.

Tire Truing/shaving. Up to date info?

If you have a significant imbalance I have seen it caused by dirt caked on the inside of the rim like concrete. And you can't see it till you take the wheel off the truck. If someone before you drove thru mud it gets in there and dries.

    A not-so-funny story (hz)

The larger 400hz gens are still used for aircraft ground power. 60kw and larger. There are buyers for them around. 10k not so much.

Blew oil line engine now toast! Cat 3116 getting replaced

There is a rear support bracket on the compressor that comes loose and causes the issues.

Blew oil line engine now toast! Cat 3116 getting replaced

I find most cat dealers are good with the lmtvs. Not the cheapest around but you get what you pay for.

Freight cost CT to WA going to a biz address with forklift or loading dock to unload is around 1000 bucks. 5-6 days transit.

Blew oil line engine now toast! Cat 3116 getting replaced

Having a forklift or boom makes it easier. Comes right out with the cab folded. The trans bolts can be a pain. Still a big job.

Will the other CTIS controllers work in the M1078 ?

All the lmtvs and some of the mrap ones should be compatible. Lmtv ctis is 12 volt. M939a2 ones are 24 volt and won't work. M35a3 is made by a different manufacturer.

    First FMTV M1083

Did that with a flatbed before. Used the wheel lift on the back of the flatbed to push down on wood blocks and got the back end high enough to drive across. Nice truck.
