I've gotten myself into another hobby. Collecting antique Hamilton 992 watches.
I did not realize until just recently that the military used these watches almost exclusively. Yes they used a few other manufactures, but the Hamilton's where there "go to" watch.
I just bought a 1944 official...
You might want to reconsider using a solid mount. The transfer case does move since the frame can flex. I've never seen a solid mount on any large truck. They always use a flex mount carrier. If installed correctly they will last the life of the truck.
That's pretty funny ! Our Transit buses are run the same way. They can have a ton of "BO" (bad orders) on them, as long as they are not safety related the bus can go out.
OK, Nemesis has a valid point here. The proper way to check the bearings is with "plasti-gauge" . You install a thin strip on the bearing, (which is still installed in the rod) then reinstall it on the crank. Then after torqueing the rod to spec you remove it (being sure not to move it !) and...
You have a point there, but then you just take the hose in and have a new one made up according to the original.
Now on a side note here, I took advanced hydraulic training and worked in a shop which made up our own hydraulic products. As long as you know the pressure and volumes you can pretty...
Yes, there is a reason for all the little nit picking way of doing things. I'm just not built that way. Too much of a "hippy" I guess !
Now I'm not against safety at all. I'm not saying that. I just don't want to be told "how" something must be done. You know the routine, "you must remove this...
I agree with Floridianson here. You really don't want to mess with the factory timing for such a simple fix. Now if your going for performance then by all means mess away with the timing. Just be warned, without "beefing" up the bottom end (ie: replacing the stock rod bolts with the improved 12...
I know the search function here is pretty bad but as far as the length of a cable goes, just buy a 20ft roll and install it. I went with 4/0 welding cable (bought on eBay) and routed it the way I thought best. I ended up using the rest on other projects. Was it factory ? No, but it works great...
All multifuel engines went to the two hole injector, so they are the "norm" now. Any military truck supplier should have them. I would call "White Owl" first. Their number is 252-522-2586. Talk with George.
Also I got some NOS two hole injectors on eBay last year for $40.00 each. You just have...
As a aircraft mechanic your then totally familiar with all the different types of safety wiring I'm sure ! It looks like the whole plane is safety wired together ! At one point in my career I thought about becoming an aircraft mechanic. All the safety rules you must "follow to the letter" and...
Wish I could be down there with you ! Though to be honest, I probably would just be in the way. I cannot climb up and around the Tanks like I did back when I played with them.
I would go with a set in the front and a set in the middle axle. If you can afford a set in all three axles that would be the best ! I worked on and drove these trucks in the Marines. (if anyone doesn't believe I was in the Marines I can provide my DD-214 and my commission to Sergeant ) They got...
