Transmission shafts and galling and spalling

I'm in the process of rebuilding several Spicer 3053 transmissions. I have noticed something on several of my old and new shafts. The older shafts all have larger "bearing" surfaces for the 2nd and 3rd gear. The newer shafts made in the 1980's all have shorter "bearing" surfaces for the gears to...

    Starter Button Bypass

Just go to the relay solenoid on the engine block and "jump" it there. No need to cut your wires. You will need them after you get a new switch.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

That makes sense. I let my membership lapse after I was banned the "first" time. No need to join a site that is going to kick you out soon.

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

I agree ! That is why I wished I had not posted about Tom's overdrive kit I bought from him until I could afford to buy another one. After I posted about his kit, they all sold out.

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

I agree cattlerepairman. That is why I said I did not think running 80/90W oil is bad. I ran it for decades in my trucks and in trucks I serviced over the years. It was after the "great oil debate" that I finally changed my mind. (last sentence removed)

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

I forgot to mention this. I have worked for over 4 decades in heavy truck maintenance with my "specialty" being transmissions. I have seen what happened to you many times before. Someone is running a particular oil and then decided to change to a modern "synthetic" oil and all "Hades" breaks...

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

Well Gerhard you seemed to have missed the "great oil debate" a few years ago now. I was a firm believer in the good old 80/90W gear oil. I used them for decades in many shops and dealerships with no problems. Then when I got into a debate with "Welldigger" and several others I ended up calling...

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

I understand "Coan Racing's" position. They are a "racers' only site. I'm glad to hear PATC let you talk to a tech though. I found out all this information years ago due to my having a foot in the heavy truck world and the racing world. Back in those days guys where looking at all angles to find...

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

I have never used Lucas oil before. From what I have read about it, it doesn't stand-up to the major gear oils. Shell, Delo, Mobile are major suppliers to transmission manufacturers . I would stay with them.

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

Yes the 50W oil would be better. That is why the article Floridianson mentioned also had the "Delo Syn-Trans XE" SAE50 oil at the end.

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

That is an excellent oil, though I would go with the "Delo Syn-Trans XE" SAE50 gear oil myself. Like I said earlier all the major transmission manufacturers recommend at least a 50W oil.

    Dual fuel tank install

At this time I am feeling better, but we will see if the infection has truly gone later this week. If it hasn't then I might be facing surgery to remove the damaged tissue.

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

The Ford and Chrysler transmissions are not in the same class as the Allison's at this time. The Ford "E4OD" was the next evolution of the good old "C-6" which was a pretty decent transmission. I rebuilt plenty in my time, but you could "modify" them to hold up to a lot of power. The transit...

    Advice rebuilding Allison 1545 Tranny?

You need to do a "project" rebuild posted here for all to see ! This series of Allison's was my favorite. The "AT" "MT" and "HT" transmissions are a blast to rebuild. The newer series of Allison's called "World Transmissions" are a pain to rebuild. All the new electronics to test and worry...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Tomorrow I finish this latest round of anti-biotics. This round really made me sick ! I see the doctor next week to go over the latest tests and scan to see if the infection is gone. I'm praying it is ! Don't want to go back to the hospital ! Sick and tired of that place ! I didn't know there...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

I know what you mean about the Wasps ! We get the ground Wasps here, and I drove over a nest two weeks ago. They where not happy with me and one got my right ear pretty good ! I drove over their nest several times after that ! Sucked them up into the mower blades !!!! Made me feel so much better !

Compatible transmissions for the M35a3 with the cat 3116

Actually the 4L80E would be a good choice for the deuce if you rebuilt it with the high performance parts the racers use. They are using engines that produce over 2000HP with this transmission ! I'm pretty sure the deuce doesn't even come close to that ! So that being said, rebuilding a 4L80E to...
