It's 3 components that fix 90% of everyone's problem. $2 in components and maybe 20 minutes of soldering/desoldering.
20 minutes and 2 dollars of risk with a 90% chance of saving 83 dollars? That's a good bet in my book.
What was damaged on it? What did you have to replace?
I'll bet if enough people went through the trouble to try fixing these, we'd probably find that there's some common weak link component that fails and could be replaced with a better equivalent.
Now I really feel bad.
I was supposed to go with him but was beat from the previous recovery.
Like I said, if the transmission is toast, you can HAVE one of my humvee pulled transmissions. Assuming you don't care about having a park position.
I'll echo the sentiments on the used interstate series 31s.
They're cheap (45 bucks) AND come with a 1 year warranty. At least from the place on Chule street in San Antonio. I've got those on one of my 5 tons, one of my deuces, and on my 10099.
Coked up combustion chambers with Waste veg oil or with waste motor oil? Or similar problem with both?
I'm aware of the study the army did with waste motor oil and not too keen on using it in this for that reason. But waste veg oil seems like a pretty common thing in diesels.
For the A/C...
Thanks, that's on the list of things to inspect and possibly replace if it needs it.
Is there an improved version or were you just talking about preventative maintenance? If it needs it, I'm just going to go with the 62 dollar one at Oreilleys.
Ok, I just got a 1009 with 91k miles on it. I plan to keep it forever and drive it semi-regularly and as cost-effectively as possible. With that in mind, here's a few things I thought I'd bounce of you guys:
1A. Fuel mixing. 50/50 waste veg oil (thoroughly cleaned first, of course!) with...
There's some threads on here about rebuilding them with links to the company that sells them. They have kits for the 12v, and both types of 24V (gear reduced and direct drive). Also individual parts.
Thanks, I'll do that.
How about timing belt? Is that something that, if it fails on a 6.2, will cause something to catastrophically fail?
Took the 1009 on it's maiden voyage this morning. Filling station, then up on the highway for a few minutes. Checked the hubs after I got home and...
DB electrical.
Are the American ones particularly more long-lived? From what I've read, it doesn't sound like it.
I've still got the dead starter it came with. I'll probably get it rebuilt in San Antonio and keep it in the truck as a spare.
