To Clarify....
1991 Manufacturing Date is indicated on the seal's package.
1996 "Shelf Life" Date is also indicated on the package.
I also agree that the seal should be just fine.
Especially since the package shows no sign of weather exposure or other poor storage or mishandling.
I'm...
I just received a new pinion seal from one of our biggest Deuce parts vendors (name omitted on purpose).
The package has a "Cured" date of "3Q91"
& a "Shelf Life" date of "3Q96".
:?: Is this common?
:?: Anything to be concerned about? Has anyone ever received a seal that was hard or...
Personally I don't consider which is cheaper, nor which is easier to take off.
My only concern is which will seal better & last the longest!
IMHO Permatex seals better, is more durable, adapts to irregular/damaged surfaces, and is always the right shape/size.
Cold Oil is thicker & more resistant to flowing freely.
That is why Cold Oil builds more pressure than Hot Oil. (esp at idle)
But in this case higher pressure is more an indication of flow resistance that it is of flow volume. The increased pressure is required to force the cold oil to flow...
I'm guessing that "book value" for a '66 is lower than "book value" for a '70.
HOPEFULLY you'll never have to find out!
Insurance Agents are always looking for a way to get an extra buck out of you.
My M38-A1 Jeep was insured in Michigan for about $50/year because my agent there classified...
These procedures are focused around preventing Turbo damage.
Coking & bearing failure can occur if shut down when very hot.
Thermal temps differences are a concern at start-up as the oil is relatively cold compared to the exhaust gas temps. Putting a lot of heat into the turbo & cooling it...
WOW! you've got a TON of extra plates there!
(Not sure what the "USA" plate is for?!?)
You want to use the "Identification Number" (picture #2)
This will match the numbers stamped on the frame (located on the drivers side frame rail inside the front tire, but typically covered by several...
On my green camo cargo cover there are vents in each of these locations that look like dryer duct exhaust vents (triangular when viewed from the side, with the opening pointing down). I'm guessing that your truck saw action in the middle-east & MAYBE they close those vents off to prevent sand...
You are looking for the one with the SERIAL NUMBER on it.
(Should be just above & to the left of the glove box. Serial Number should be stamped into the plate.)
This Serial Number is what is used to title & register the truck.
Don't confuse this with the Contract Number.
(Don't be surprised...
That guage panel (w/o tach) was standard on the GMC M211 M135 series of Deuces. It is also used on the M715 5/4Ton Jeep trucks. Probably used on others as well.
Guage panel w/o tach is narrower, so you can't just swap in the later (w tach) panel.
Are we gonna see pics of the rest of the...
Looks like you got a REALLY NICE truck there! CONGRATS! [thumbzup]
Appears to have had a major service in 1990, & fresh paint in 2004! NICE!!
(I think mine has "CARC 91" on it, so understandably your's looks MUCH better!)
Actual Total Mileage is a complete guess, as speedos & tachs...

Good from -65degreesF to 650degreesF intermittant (WAY More that you'll ever need!).
Resists cracking, shrinking...
Yeah, I know that would be the best procedure to get the right size....
But with my time constraints I was thinking I'd buy 1 of each (& maybe a few other sizes as well) and cover all of the bases.
My experience is that IF you ABSOLUTELY NEED a particular part on a Saturday morning it WILL...
THANKS!
That ALL matches what I'd assumed!
:?: Does anyone know the approx dims of the M/C Cap Seal?
I'm away from the truck right now (needed to work at SOME POINT this week...) but I'm going back to get the truck & drive it home to GA this weekend.
1st thing on the list for...
