    Couple questions about the Deuce

Does it need to be GL-1? Or does anything up to GL-4 work? I have read that it is only GL-5 that MIGHT be incompatible with copper-based parts due to extreme pressuure (EP) wear additives. To give the gear oil its EP rating, it's trationally been easiest to add a sulpher based friction...

    Couple questions about the Deuce

The Lubrication Orcer just calls out "GO 80/90" "GO-Lubricating Oil, Gear Multipurpose (MIL-L-2105)" Isn't this just plain old 80W90 Gear Oil?? Does it have to specify "GL-1" or "Yellow Metal Compatible"? Is plain old common 80W90 not compatible with "yellow metal"? (I'm assuming that...

    Master Cylinder Cap

I just had a thought... I'm assumiing that the repair shop topped off the M/C fluid level. & since the cap on this truck is NOT connected to the vent line (it is missing the hose portion) could it be that the wetness I'm seeing on the top of the M/C is simply excess that is coming out of the...

    Master Cylinder Cap

Thanks guys! I'll check the M/C to see if the gasket is missing. & I had already planned on eventually installing a remote reservoir. I WAS gonna come up with my own components, BUT it is good to know that kits are already available!! Let's face it, the original design leaves a lot to be...

    Master Cylinder Cap

Where can I get a new Master Cylinder Cap? Mine appears to be leaking/weeping... (Might just be slightly overfilled... But it still shouldn't be letting fluid out. To be honest I'm more worried about what it might be letting IN!) Also noticed that the vent line isn't connected to the...

New Deuce needs new main rear seal...

:?: What does a Deuce flywheel weigh?? :?:

Wheel Bearing Temps High, grease & Preload Q's

ANOTHER UPDATE: I picked up the truck today. But before paying the bill I took it for a long test drive (approx 30 miles, mostly at highway speeds)... Checked the hubs immediately after stopping with an IR gun. None of the hubs was hotter than the high 120's (degrees F). [thumbzup] BTW...

Military M211 Gas Truck Exhaust System

WOW! I had heard that the stock muffler was a side exhaust setup, but I never realized it was THAT strange looking! Now I think I better understand the empty hamgers that are under my XM211... I think you should make at least 3 "practice" mufflers before you make the one for your truck...

    Got me a A3

Depending on what the heater core looks like, & size, your local radiator shop might be able to simply order a generic heater core, then transfer the in & out tubes and tanks to the new core. OR find a similarly sized complete heater core & simply mod the in/out tubes. Look at these: SCHERBRA...

Wheel Bearing Temps High, grease & Preload Q's

Thanks for the tip. I have NO IDEA how much grease has been used... That is one disadvantage of not doing this particular repair myself. I do know that they used High-temp Lithium Grease this time, & not Moly Grease. I guess I'll discover how much is in there when I next get an...

Wheel Bearing Temps High, grease & Preload Q's

Couldn't agree more! I have PLENTY of other "toys" that keep me up to my elbows in grease & oil (& dirt, & blood, & sweat, & tears...) I'm sure that this one will be similar... It IS already off to a good start down THAT path!! BTW: Unofficially, I was helping with the repairs for this new...

Single reservoir master cylinder on deuces ?

I would have to say that as long as you based your components on a proven system you'd be safe, even in court. So if you used similar sized components to that of the A3 you'd have a good basis to stand on. OR if you simply duplicated component sizes from the A2, just with a dual-zoned system...

Wheel Bearing Temps High, grease & Preload Q's

Have you ever pointed an IR gun at them to get a temp reading? Just noticed that you are in Alaska... So I'm ASSUMING you are referencing summer driving conditions & not when you are wearing gloves & snow boots! Correct!? (Sorry! I just couldn't resist!! Beautiful state you have up...

Military M211 Gas Truck Exhaust System

Seems High! & I agree that the parts don't look right! I'm managed to pick up a few pieces via auctions at very reasonable prices. I want to replace my exhaust eventually with something more original looking. (I currently have a non orig muffler that simply dumps down under the cab. Works...

    Got me a A3

Nice Lookin' A3! I'm trying to figure out a way to tell you that your heater core will be impossible to fix and/or replace. Then I'll somehow follow this piece of bogus advise with a statement like, "having no heat in NY will be simply unbearable!". Then after a few more clever lies, I'll...

    Lights

That happens to me also... I find at times that just as I'm finishing asking the question I think of the answer. Then the co-worker (or wife, or girl-friend, or etc...) I'm asking just gives me a puzzled look as I BLURT OUT the answer to the question I just asked! I simply tell...

Wheel Bearing Temps High, grease & Preload Q's

UPDATE: I spoke with the repair shop this afternoon... -They pulled the pass rear wheel bearings again, cleaned them off (removed all of that Moly grease), & inspected them carefully (all looked good!) -They Repacked them with High Temp Lithium Grease (the type normally used for disk brakes)...

Single reservoir master cylinder on deuces ?

SIDE NOTE: I also collect, restore, & race British Sports Cars from the 50's & 60's. Many of these cars originally came with single-circuit brake systems, drum brakes all around, bias ply tires, and no seatbelts. Vintage Racing circuits REQUIRE that dual-circuit brakes be installed, front...

Single reservoir master cylinder on deuces ?

There is nothing wrong with making improvements to the Deuce. Especially safety improvements! Many of us update the filters used, we use better lubricants, we mount better tires, we install electric wipers, we restore & even improve the paint & seats. WHY NOT improve what is arguably THE...

Oil Overfill - Possible Rear Seal Leak

No, I believe he just added too much too fast. Probably thought the numbers on the Dip Stick stood for gallons... Honest mistake I guess. At least it wasn't 3 gallons too low!! (I'm just thankful that no permanent damage was done. No oil starvation, no hydraulic lock, & no blown rear seal.)
