I've started getting a little brown smoke if i "goose" the throttle while unloaded. I know that I have some water in the fuel, and believe that the water in fuel is causing the smoke. maybe the excess steam is cleaning the engine, but probably not.
If you want an airbrake Deuce-like vehicle, my recommendation would be to do what Floridianson did to his 920, or start with a 916 (same truck minus the pusher axle and shorter overall length).
my 2cents
$4k for mine from a guy that was storing it at our farm for the six months before I bought it. Still have $2k in payments to go, but should be able to take care of that shortly. When I bought it, it had new XLs under it (10 of 'em), but the lights didn't work and the engine is way out of tune...
With a seized turbo you shouldn't have a problem, as the multi was originally setup to run without it. That all goes out the window if you've turned up the fuel rate though.
Looking at the first picture, are the splines on the right axle-shaft twisted, or is it just the picture? If they are twisted, I'd look into a set of spares if I were you (assuming of course that you don't have any yet)
I get to do this run-around in VA in the not-too-distant future. Getting insurance was sure easy though. All I did was drive the deuce to the state farm agent and she took care of the rest. Tried to get antique insurance, but SF corporate wouldn't have it because of the weight. Still, $120...
Just for clarification, you're talking about operating the sprag, and not the range, correct? If so, I don't believe there's any reason that you can't do what you described.
I see that you are correct, thank you very much! :)
found a picture of the compressor tube here in the fourth picture: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/42571-fording-kit-installed.html
The part about oil getting on the filter is certainly valid, but the opening is about 1" diameter. I'll look in the TMs, but I find it hard to believe that its for the compressor intake at that size. In either case, thanks for the input :)
