I like the 10 tons too, and that monster winch, WOW. After reading about them on the Van Nettas (sp?) logging website however, I'm not a huge fan of the monster transmission set up they have. I would lose the whole drivetrain and start frest with different engine w/road ranger and prolly a 5...
Congratulation Justin and Bjorn! [thumbzup]
In the next coming month or two I too will be selling my deuce crane truck 'Blue' with the M977 crane. Need to do a little clean up on that. Would love a fresh paint job, but a new owner may have fun with that bit of TLC.
I hope it's an M939 PTO. ;)
Bjorn, missed your one question; yes, checked the valve and it's okay. The leak is from between the wheel halves in a couple of spots.
If you get a factory 8 speed HI - LO shifter you can slap it right into the top cover of the tranny by pulling the block off plate and bolting it on. You have to do the shift plate and shift rail mods, obviously...but you don't need to go in through the side. I have a PTO on my tranny.
My HI...
Seriously, do this. :ditto::ditto::ditto::ditto:
Find a shop that not speculating, guessing, or diesel jaded already...oh, and most importantly: that know what they're talking about. Wanna know for sure- look at the bellhousing pattern. You'd either have an adapter plate, or the BOP TH400.
Ha, nice!
This 8 speed conversion isn't my idea by any means but will work for my Mogs application very well. I wanted to post this pic earlier but forgot...one of those days. It shows the gearing and you can see how the low range overlaps into the high range which makes this such a nice...
Thanks G!
The 6, 8, & 20 speeds (I'm not sure on the 24, but I think) all use the same main transmission. 6 & 8's only differ in shifting components. 20 and up have the Cascade box in front of the main trans at the bell housing area. I think because those had so many other gears to select...
I converted the 6 speed transmission in my Unimog 406 into an 8 speed!!! It’s a bit of work, but not too bad…it basically goes like this: You have the transmission cover with the shifters that you move for gear selection and the corresponding internal top part of the shift linkage. Then you have...
Nice big block 11echo!!! Kind of overkill that Dart intake though wouldn't you say?
If someone is changing out to a gas engine wouldn't it be a good time to drop an alternator and 12V the whole truck? Are these that messed up with wiring that it couldn't be simplified? I've dont...
Everytime I bring that idea up someone comments on the size of the radiator needed and the 818 may not have the room. I know on the tri-axle front half I have with the Silver 92 that radiator is MASSIVE. I say try it though!!!
You are friggin something else Bjorn!!! [thumbzup]
11Echo, 939 CTIS hubs don't flip. I like the Kraz/Zil look of hub out on a big truck too. :)
One deuce I had was a 53 REO used for salt truck service with chrome lug nut covers. I had to get the right front wheel off to replace the busted...
Gimp, you'll be doing me a favor so no rush on the pics. Somehow the pony engine is still starting and running on the varnish pee in it's tank so I'm good for a while.
G, that's awesome! My Craftsman 3/4" drive breaker bar with a 5' pipe handles about all my big needs. Problem...
Yep, then heading to Sears put in rush hour traffic...holy smokes...stopped at Tractor Supply to buy that impact gun since they USED TO carry them- gone. Ingersol Rand now and three times the price. Oh well...now that I can fire this again thing I'm pumped up about working on it!
I had a problematic wheel & tire combo one time on a two piece non-military wheel with 395 XML's. I used tire slim around the beads to lub the tire and insure a leak proof seal. Good luck to whomever has to take that apart again...the whole center plate was full of RTV.
