If you get the truck just pick up a good 5 speed take out.....they are plentiful enough. And if I remember correctly the 5th gear is also a 1.00 ratio so the Eaton won't give you any advantage on the top end. If you really want to get an overdrive, there is a company out that makes a new 5th...
I would still take the head to a good shop and have it checked for cracks and to see if it is warped......well worth the $$, especially since you won't have to do the work of tearing it back down if it isn't good. At least by you cleaning it that will save you that money.
The point I am trying to say is this......you drive what you want as a daily vehicle, if it breaks you have to fix it.....I have had many vehicles that I have had to be under late at night to get it back on the road the next day......many times that same "easy" to own truck that you can walk...
Actually, No I didn't have another vehicle, however I did buy one on the fly so I could take a month to finish my truck. I went all out on the motor build, I could have done it a lot faster if I had to, but I didn't want to so I took my time and made it very nice. For the time I have had my...
I am from the other side of the fence.......I DO drive my deuce as a daily driver........I am hopelessly lost without mine(it was down for a new motor).....and before I get flak for the motor.......it was on it's way out from day one so I knew it was going to need replaced, and that didn't stop...
With the heads off and looking straight down on the block.....or at least imagine you are........the regular block the casting is not as thick and follows the studs......the "TD" block is thicker....more metal is around all the studs. This allows higher torque specs without distorting the block...
Ok, wanted to put this up. Not saying you don't know how it works, and I don't know how much you do know on a motors workings. This link will show you a camshaft: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camshaft
You can see how it works and what it looks like. From this you will be able to understand my...
Did you change out the bent push rod? Being mechanical, I can't see the timing being off for just 1 cylinder and not all of them. Anyway, you should only set the valves with the motor off and a feeler gauge. set them to the specs and run the motor(after a rebuild) you will have to check them and...
Motor was a fresher rebuild that got burned out........so new pistons, rings, liners and twin oil squirters.....new style head gaskets, different set of heads with complete head jobs(valves, decked, the works) all new gaskets.....still have to have injectors cleaned and tuned(they are fine just...
I finally took out my old motor and installed a LDS motor I just rebuilt, also installed extra air horn, and back up switch on the trans. Just need to finish installing my 5 ton multi air cleaner and the new 5" exhaust.
Gotta give a thanks to George for helping out on this:beer:, we used his...
Yes the TD is for thick deck........however it is the block that is thick, not the heads........the block is thicker around the top where you have all the head bolts......that will allow the higher torque spec, so you can use the new style head gaskets and torque them to the high torque spec(you...
Nice to know rusty nuts........I was actually going to run AN lines on the truck........I have a buddy with a shelf full of AN stuff, will have to head over there and check it out.
Bones......get a hold of C&C equipment........he is here in Indiana........a member on here as well, and you can find his info on ebay......anyway tell him what you need and he can get one off a junk truck, he has a huge salvage yard, the line itself is 1/2" but should be copper, and if you have...
I gotta say Bobby, I know what fitting he is after...........I had to make the one on my old second tank........I went all over....even the largest plumbing houses in our area........no such luck, was able to find something close but not quite........I spent 2 weeks stumping everyone with that...
Glad to know about the title thing........let me know how the title work turns out for you...........Now I do know that up here they(BMV) said I should get a temp plate, however I have not been told about a LAW that stated I Must get a temp plate to be legal......Like I said, I have driven on...
Man.........finally had some time to catch up on the Haspin happenings..........I MISSED A GOOD ONE:cry:.........Sparky, your videos made me home sick......I mean "Haspin" sick!!
Finally fired my deuce........the new motor sounds so good, can't wait to drive it home tomorrow.:driver: I miss...
I do agree 100% about getting insurance on it BEFORE you let the tires touch pavement.....too many things can go wrong and put you in a world of hurt.......My agent "knows" that I am always getting vehicles....some never hit the road again, after I drive them home, and others are just beaters to...
