The Ford and Chrysler transmissions are not in the same class as the Allison's at this time. The Ford "E4OD" was the next evolution of the good old "C-6" which was a pretty decent transmission. I rebuilt plenty in my time, but you could "modify" them to hold up to a lot of power. The transit...
You need to do a "project" rebuild posted here for all to see !
This series of Allison's was my favorite. The "AT" "MT" and "HT" transmissions are a blast to rebuild. The newer series of Allison's called "World Transmissions" are a pain to rebuild. All the new electronics to test and worry...
Tomorrow I finish this latest round of anti-biotics. This round really made me sick ! I see the doctor next week to go over the latest tests and scan to see if the infection is gone. I'm praying it is ! Don't want to go back to the hospital ! Sick and tired of that place !
I didn't know there...
I know what you mean about the Wasps ! We get the ground Wasps here, and I drove over a nest two weeks ago. They where not happy with me and one got my right ear pretty good ! I drove over their nest several times after that ! Sucked them up into the mower blades !!!! Made me feel so much better !
Actually the 4L80E would be a good choice for the deuce if you rebuilt it with the high performance parts the racers use. They are using engines that produce over 2000HP with this transmission ! I'm pretty sure the deuce doesn't even come close to that ! So that being said, rebuilding a 4L80E to...
Come on Frank. Don't lead anyone astray here. You know better.
There is tremendous differences between a "engine" oil and a transmission gear oil. Especially one that works with "yellow metals" . You didn't even get into the whole "shear" and "compression" values of the oil which are vitally...
I love the "older" DT466 engines. Made great power and gave good fuel economy.
By the way. Will I be making a trip up there anytime soon to retrieve a transmission ?
Just wondering.
I would not put it above the frame rail. To easily damaged that way.
I just drilled a new hole about 1.5" above the original and rerouted the cable. Works great. The cable can be a bit of fun trying to get it off the brake shoe lever. I installed new stainless nuts and lubed it up good so in the...
There's lots of little "secrets" transmission rebuilders find out through the years. Since I worked on the larger trucks I had more opportunity's to find out these little gems about the early Allison's and the connections between "GMC" and "Detroit Diesel Allison". Glad this knowledge is finally...
OK Toby. Here are several places I have bought parts from. All sell good quality parts
www.transmissioncenter.com Good quality race parts
www.transpartsonline.com General good quality kits and parts
www.transmissionpartsusa.com General good quality kits and parts

I would go with the biggest crane you can get. You can always load less then capacity, but you never can load over capacity. The frame can always be beefed up to handle the extra weight. Remember the deuce frame is "not" hardened like the 5 tons are.
I always thought Detroit Diesel should have tried harder to make their 2 stroke engines pass emissions . The 4 stroke units are OK, but you cannot get them to rev like the old 2 strokes could. Man you could make a truck "Fly" with that engine !
Though truth be told I've always been a "Cummins"...
That is a good installation job there WildEd ! I used to install complete A/C units in vehicles when I worked at a A/C shop Phoenix in the late 1970's . Back then most cars and trucks didn't come with factory A/C then.
That was the problem. The Ford unit didn't have one, but according to the Turbo rebuilder I was working with it could be done but the cost was really high. I didn't want to spend $1200.00 at the time though.
