Yeah that's kind of neat. I picked up a few parts for it today in the form of a couple parts jeeps.
First is a very rough and highly modified m38. A few parts are still good on it, the frame looks pretty good too. It has old school Warn hubs on the front which is a plus.
Second is a CJ. The...
After taking a look at the ad, it's definitely not a pipeline truck. It is either an m764 earthboring machine and pole setter, or it's a regular cargo with parts from an m764 on it. A pretty rare truck still.
Thanks for the lead Kenny, that is going to be the hard to find item I think. There's a pretty good chance these two rare deuces have met before, they both came from VTCS around the same time.
Well... I bought this m59 today. Needs some work here and there, but definitely worth saving. The toolbox isn't on the truck but the previous owner says he has it. One of the quarter fenders is there but not on the truck, he may have the other as well. The bad thing is the cab protector is...
Thanks! I will take the bed back off to weld up the underside too. The cut across the floor between the fenders just happened to be in the middle of one of the braces that runs from side to side, so we left that in place and just cut the spot welds there. The new piece of floor sits over it...
I think it actually looks pretty good.:-)
The bed is an inch or so too far back in the pics above. Going to take it back off the truck this afternoon to start fitting the two pieces together.
Sweet truck. When you get a chance could you post a better pic or tell me the brand of the marker lights at the very outside of the front fenders? I'm planning on adding those to my crash truck someday. I've got the contact truck brackets and guards for them but no lights.
A local m37...
Right, my problem is (or was) that I don't have an m35 or m34 truck to measure that space. On the m135 the bed is right up on the cab with no room for convoy light poles or gun ring legs. On the m36 it looked like the bed was further away from the cab than normal. We started on cut number...
I thought so too at first, but when I measured it all out it didn't seem right. After looking at Fred Crismon's book with a good picture of the real truck I think they shortened it a few inches more than just the 3 feet between the stake pockets.
Otherwise, with the measurements in the plan the...
Can anyone get me a measurement of the space between the front bed rail and the cab on an m35a2? Measuring at the middle would be fine. We cut the first part of the bed out and that measurement will help decide the second cut.
Looking short!
We pulled the axle back out today to weld the lift blocks/ "extended spring perches" to the axle. As expected we'll have to move the air tanks a bit. There might be room for one on either side of the frame, or I could move them up to the stock location for an m35. It also...
I think it's about the same. It does look short in the pics but I think that may be because it sits a bit lower than the m35 bed.
I was thinking about removing the exhaust stack to make it look a little more like the original. Of course, that won't help with the rest of the differences...
Yes it's Canadian. It doesn't have a tailgate, it looks like the back of a typical m38a1 to me. Yes it was delivered in 1970, that's why it has turn signals, alternator, windshield washer, and other mods (all that stuff is stock on the CDN3 Jeeps). I believe that was the very last contract...
I think the alternator even charges. I'll have to take a pic of the back tomorrow, it definitely isn't a recoiless Jeep. Here's a pic of the data tag.
Thanks for the info. The brake shoes on this truck look new to me, so I'm going to roll with stock brakes right now.
Yeah I like that about the front springs, but I also like the fact that the m105 springs have overloads and sit outside the frame. I don't care for using lift blocks though...
