Progress on the Gator has been slow lately since it's done to the point where it's usable and not in the way anymore.
A couple weeks ago:
Yesterday:
Right now I'm in the process of changing out the steering rack since it had broken teeth on both sides.
Never seen it in any book, but I've seen at least 5 of those on m416s so I'd guess that it is legit. It's also possible that it was made and sold by a surplus dealer, but I'd guess it's military.
Sounds like an m101 or m101a1. You are correct, the lug nuts on the driver's side should be left hand thread. Never seen one that is all aluminum before, if it is it's probably worth the long dollar as I've only seen them in steel.
The wheels are the same as on dodge m37 trucks, m101/m116 and...
Nice! I was bidding on it but stopped around 10k. Did they say which of the two pictured is the one that was being sold? I was guessing it was the one with the black bumper, as the one pictured in the station was parked to the passenger side of the other and looks like it's missing. I was up...
You didn't state whether the trailer has LED marker lights or not. If it does not you should change them to 12 volt bulbs if they are 24 volt. You should also swap the 4 taillight bulbs that are used with 12 volt bulbs as well. The right bulbs for the taillights will set you back about $3...
They're good for that sort of thing. I've still haven't unloaded the stuff from the VT show from 9 months ago; I'll just wait until someone buys the trailer I think.:shrugs:
Thanks Bert. The tool trailer is a 1978 box off an m116a1 that's now on an m116a3 chassis with the axle off an m116a2. My brother and I put it together less than a year ago and used it a couple times to bring parts to shows with the CUCV II.
Not much work has gotten done on the Gator as of late, whenever it's nice outside I've been working on stuff that actually needs to be done. I did get a chance to scuff and shoot the front with Trail Olive paint, it looks good enough for me.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to paint the rest...
I thought it was a pretty good show again this year. There were a ton of good deals to be had, and I sold a surprising amount of stuff. I had no issues worth mentioning with the staff, although some of the other vendors I talked to were not happy about some things. My biggest complaint was...
If you do need an axle I have an extra up here in Northern VT. It came with a lot of take-off m416 parts I bought; I haven't looked at it yet so all I know is the drums turn.
Good luck!
I had those size tires on an m100 (same dimension wheels I think) and they fit fine. I can't comment on the clearance with the fender though. Nice trailer.
If anyone wants any of this stuff I can bring it.
16'x16' expandable tents (new in crate vinyl, good used frames) $1150 each.
NOS rear axle shafts (long) for the m37 trucks for $100 each.
Also: 5 ton winch extensions (no m939 series)
Deuce/older 5ton and m37 starters
5 ton truck pintle hooks...
