It's going to be 4 degrees cooler here this week than Austin but of course what's 104 compared to 108? Still danged hot! But I do have A/C in my shop that'll knock it down to the mid-90s.
TexAndy and Keith_J are doing a mighty fine job of helping me out though. I'll get it to a show before...
We have a mighty fine Tex/Mex restaurant in our area and the M37 is much easier to navigate around (not the cool factor of a V but everything is lighter). Besides, Nessie has made it to a couple of shows now while the 37 has been sitting in my shop for 3 years. Just because it takes 90+...
Here's a shot of the finished rear frame with the pintle reinstalled.
Tomorrow I start the finish work on the new front end. It's already been sanded and primed so just need to go over it lightly one more time and then wash with grease/wax remover and start shooting some color.
I guess the "sand it a little with the DA and paint it" is out the window with all of the patch work planned.
I'm going to need a bigger boat...er, bigger can of paint.
Here's a couple of pics working on the rear frame and fuel tank. As this is a "motorpool" restoration I don't want to undue anything that would keep the vehicle from driving. In other words I don't want to take a chance of disconnecting the fuel tank to find out something screwy happened in...
Here's a shot of the pintle after paint. I want to get some new bolts for it before I put it back on but it's lubed up and ready to go.
We've been trying to get some major body work done on the driver's side cab corner. It had been damaged at one point and their idea of repairs was to wail...
Sorry about your accident Troll but there's already laws on the books and that didn't stop the drunk from getting behind the wheel before he hit you. How many drunks are out there getting multiple DUIs and the courts still let them drive? Passing another law won't stop them since the ones...
Problem with this is where do you draw the line? There are people who shouldn't be talking to someone in the vehicle with them while driving but you can't outlaw that (or enforce it if it was outlawed).
New laws are not the answer. If there's something on the books now (like immigration)...
Turns out I am going to have to replace the wheel cylinders. Front left is leaking already so instead of messing with them I'm just going to replace them all.
I had a disc brake set up and sold it. This is the wife's truck and she wants it original so that's the way it's going to stay...
Thanks for all of the encouragement guys.
The reason I started this thread was for guys working on these for the first time not the ones that have done a dozen of them. Hopefully the photos I add and the issues that I come up with will be of help.
Having said that, here is what the pintle...
I'm guessing B3.3Ts question was more geared to why someone interested in an item wouldn't use it's name but instead call it a "thing."
And for the record (in case he doesn't know) SEE = Small Emplacement Excavator
While the bed is off I wanted to clean up the lines going to the fuel tank. After nearly 60 years these are pretty gunked up with mud and rust. The lines seem to be solid so I don't want to go to the expense and hassle of replacing them if I don't have to but I'd like to get the crud out so...
After 3 years of owning it we've finally started working on the wife's M37. Somehow in 3 years time I haven't managed to take any photos of it (that I can find) so no real "before" pictures to give you any idea of how bad it was (is).
The truck came from PA via eBay. The lying POS that sold it...
How soon does it need to be in San Antonio and WHERE does it need to be once here? I'll be in Austin this afternoon but unless he's sprouted wings I doubt scranch will be so we'll need to swap at a later date.
That was one of our problems today. We wound up taking the master out first then locking the yoke in the bench vise and using a box end wrech (and lots of Kroil) to break it free. What happened was there was a spot of rust that kind of fuse welded them together and it took some real torque to...
