I just did the front axle swivel.
From what I can tell, the draglink, as measured at a point approximately 5" out from the frame rail and approximately 23" fore of its position at neutral, swings approximately 8" between steering stops on the frame.
The Tie Rod, stop to stop, experiences a...
The title says it all.... what is the throw of the stock draglink, with stock steering stops? I am about to fabricate a new pitman arm and I'd like to know how much travel the steering really needs..
Yes, I could jack up the axle and swivel it (and still might) but it would be great to have a...
You can add AntiCav additives to cheap antifreeze and bring it up to spec. Also get test strips - they will allow the testing, as mentioned earlier.
By the way, I just got my power steering pump working tonight, and the box is mounted (and hooked to the steering shaft with the part I was...
Thanks for the feedback, gents - much appreciated! I assembled side one dry last night, and greased the KP zerks after installing new bronze KP bushings.
I'm deep into a kingpin rebuild and boot pack on my front axle, and when I removed the old boot, the inside is literally GUSHING gorilla snot and grease (almost looks like cosmoline).
Is this normal? I haven't really been inside a deuce axle WHILE it was on a deuce, so I'm trying to determine...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Builder77 Ethan De-splining?
Hi Bryan,
Wow - that's a big setup you have! I, too, appreciate the offer. I stop at the welders and the 13" vintage LeBlonde, but they suffice for most of my needs.
BTW, I love the story about your swap meet find - I love hearing those types...
I think disclosure of bias are important, but I think presentation of facts are also of interest. I moreover think there are enough people with enough sense out there to sort through facts themselves and come up with their own conclusion.
What are these "serious issues" you mention here? Also...
RE: Re: RE: Builder77 Ethan De-splining?
Hi Mate,
I don't have an incredible amount of tooling, but I do have a lathe up here in Boulder... let me know if you need to use it.
Best,
Bob
To the casual observer, Gerhardt's post may look biased.... but from what I've seen in the (how many?) years I've been here (and even on the old server before that), his dedication to the M35 and overall MV hobby is nothing short of extraordinary. His vehicles are polished, well built, and...
RE: Crosspost: Added 12v LED turn lights in series to the de
Interesting - I was very concerned with over-driving these. When I checked the lights by delivering 19v of power to each one, they were very much brighter than they were in series, which (in my limited experience with LED componentry)...
The subject line pretty much says it all:

This is my primary forum, and I can easily upload pics on that site.
Anyway, these look pretty smart - I have the side markers on the lower rail of the bed, mounted with some coated body screws...
RE: Re: RE: Shocks
Question about shocks - has anyone put them on the rear axles? My deuce bounces all over the place in the rear, and I'm wondering if rear shocks would be worth the effort.
I have used plastic inserts on a similar bolt-together wheel, and my trick was to place the assembled 16x20 XL tire/insert/wheel package under the front of my deuce and a half, and then use a high-lift between the vehicle and the wheel package as the "ram" in a gigantic lift to press the halves...
....well, I guess that post may have been somewhat premature. I actually have a Ross HPS box... the casting marking on the main piece is HPS 782981. The pump I have is an Eaton... which I'm currently considering replacing with a Saginaw - not sure what I'll do yet.
BTW just found this great...
