To bring this post back to the surface, I have a Ross Hydrapower box here (made to go outside the frame rail) that comes tapped as stock from the factory. I'm currently rebuilding the pump right now, but just thought I'd post up after finding this thread while searching.
I'd doubt those are too far siezed in there. Whereas I'd soak with PB out of habit, I'd probably just cut the "bottom of the U" off the old ubolts off with a cutoff wheel (rotary tool), and then hammer on the end if I didn't get traction on the remaining "stems" once I whaled on the attached...
Here are the angles.
The front driveshaft comes down at approximately 6-7 degrees (tipping towards the front of the vehicle), and the pumpkin is at just about 8 degrees, tipping towards the rear of the vehicle.
So, we're looking at 15 degrees. I hope I don't get a driveline vibe from the...
Hi Gents,
Had I seen this post before I went back to retorque the ubolts tonight, I could have solid answers for you. So, tomorrow you'll have answers. :)
Best

Report on steering:
The current steering at 8 degrees caster is extraordinarily stable. At speed, in ruts, going over bumps, the vehicle maintains its course and appears to weave much less than it does with stock steering.
The steering effort has increased, to the point where it's a little...
I just tried to throw an angle finder on the rig after swapping stuff around... and yes, it appears I'm near 8 degrees. It's a pretty serious angle but I am optimistic about being able to put power steering on it within the next few weeks.
By the way, the semi ruts around here are ferocious...
Great points, gents, and gringel, again, great work with the link. I have a power steering unit all ready to go - I basically just need to get it mounted and plumbed (and make a bracket to mount the pump).
I'll finish tonight (I had to employ some time-consuming trickery to get one of the...
I'm sitting here, smacking my forehead! This is a great solution - very elegant. Of course, you just need to take pressure off the shim, but not necessarily by letting the suspension droop. Thanks so much for posting!!!!!!!!!
I need some front axle caster. This thing is unbearable at 0º - well, I am somewhat convinced, after driving it around with radials for a few years and being on the losing side of handling that makes a greased-pig look manageable, I think this is the ticket to steering that stays where you put...
Hi Gang,
I am encountering an issue - with all of my jacks, and all of my tools, I am having issues lifting and supporting the weight of the vehicle, enough to permit swapping these shims.
I have a 48" high lift (I know, dangerous when misused), some LARGE jackstands, and the typical 3 ton...
I'd suggest that you try to tow something.... over the mountains... at 10,000 feet... and you realize that (de-rating the engine for less oxygen) when you have 110-ish horsepower on tap, trying to move 20,000 lbs.... is a fool's errand. :)
For sea level, with few sustained hills, turning up the...
My name is on the original list to receive one. I vaguely recall actually putting my name on there approximately 18 months ago.
From what I understand, they have prototypes, but that the material handling concerns, such as casting, machining, movement, etc... are causing major disruption to a...
RE: is there any power steering options for 2.5 other than .
Remember, you can always outboard your steering if you can cut and weld a ujoint yoke onto the existing steering tube(s), which gives you much better choices of boxes. I have posted plenty of times on this and I'd also be happy to...
I also put an exhaust brake on my deuce. Granted, I am using a different engine (and I actually have a wastegate in parallel with my Pacbrake to keep backpressure low, a requirement on the 3208), but the location is the same.
I haven't written it up, but it is on the stack, just next to the...
Interesting - I've always wondered about this. I thought I had put an angle finder on the kingpins at some point, but if there's more inclination to be had, I'm all for it. When I have built axles in the past, I typically have gone for 6 to 8 degrees of caster.
By the way, I also found that, on...
I would highly advise not using Cat 2 Agricultural spherical rod ends on vehicles that see on-road time. These wear too fast, are unlined, and are generally lower alloy than proper, close-tolerance SRE's. Not to say it can't be done, but there are better ways.
You know, I think it would be easier to just throw a brace and panhard on, say, the rear axle there and call it good, rather than rework the stock arms.
Good call on the truck parts bin. This project looks like it's sliding ever more to the right, so I need ease over anything else. :(
