I bought a 5 ton tractor and replaced the 5th wheel with a shortened dropside bed. That was the plan all along, so I wouldn't be tempted to start collecting military trailers. Admittedly, the urge is still there. I am still trying to supress it. Gotta love the 939 series. Full air brakes, power...
I was willing to use my 932, after all you are just the next state over from Ohio and I am a half-hour away from the Indiana state line. But when I saw where Merrillville was, it isn't feasable. I don't think you could get any farther away and still be in Indiana.
Welcome to the site! You already seem to have been bitten by the OD bug and will fit in well here. Keep up the good work and thanks for the pictures. Great to see these saved, especially in foreign countries. Must be quite rare there.
The purpose of the bypass is to keep the truck in rear wheel drive until it is manually shifted into all wheel drive. That way, you can use reverse in low range, provided the auto-lock is bypassed and therefore the truck's front end is not engaged. The damage occurs when in reverse, low range...

These are for the mounts on the frame. The other ones are for the "eyes" of the sway bar. I replaced the ones on the frame, in the process I couldn't get the sway bar loose. I let go with both hands to locate the hammer laying on the floor next to me, and the bar came loose and smacked me in the...
The driver HAD a spotter on the ground and another standing on the front of the trailer. Either it was poor communication or the driver was too stuck-up to take the guidance. No teamwork there at all. Amateurs.
"He who hesitates is lost". In this case, if he would have kept going instead of stopping, I believe it would not have tipped over. In the moment, freezing up is understandable. I bet it scared the bejesus out of him too.
I have a 5th wheel plate and ramps from my 932. Like new condition. Also a Robbins & Myers USAF Turret & Engine Hoist, 5000 lb capacity, 24 volt. Mfg date 6-24-1953. Also 2 hyd pumps, 24v.
Rule #1- you can NEVER have a big enough building. Make it as big as you possibly can. Rule #2- you can NEVER have too tall of a door. At least 12'. If possible, make it 14' so that a 13' 6" vehicle will clear. When the green fever really takes hold, you will be glad to have the room and...
I always had a hunch that the headlights and the horn were tied together. This explains why my horn gets louder when the high beam switch is activated. Doghead is amazing!!!
