The tires on the M819 are 1200s. NDCCs in the rear and two different radial treads in the front. If I could all the trucks painted the same color, it would look a lot better!
CZ- You got an open invitation, come on down and pickup your towbar. A couple of SS members have stopped by, and I...
This Army installed the 11R20 duals on it. Some people say it can't work, but it has so far. I have only carried a couple tons with it, though. If tire failures exist, I'll be sure to report back. I think 14.5s all the way around would be good. I just don't have that many A3 rims.

RE: Re: RE: New Tire Setup on Deuce
The truck handles very well. I was expecting some rumble or vibrations, but didn't notice anything. I think the best tire combos for a deuce are Michelin 11R20 XL (duals) or Michelin 14.5R20 XL (singles). I just merged the two. The 1100s came on the truck...
Saturday was a fun day. After some serious horse trading, I brought a M819 home. It seems to be in decent shape with only a few repairs necessary. A 5 tonner with chrome hubcaps and lugnut covers, yikes! I towed it to be on the safe side. The M816 was a bit sluggish with the M819 in tow...
Tim-
The cranes are rated up to 10,000 but that decreases as the boom is extended out (conservative rating). I would always use the outriggers with anything substantial. Bracing can be used with side lifts for added support. Several good diagrams in the -10 manual.
I have been running Michelin 11R20 XL tires on my deuce in dual configuration and have been very pleased with their performance. Today, I got a wild idea to swap out the 11R20s in the front for 14.5R20s on M35A3 wheels. Tire diameter is the same and I thought the wider tire in the front might...
Michael, I know of some HEMTT chassis that may come with titles. Let me check. Is your truck a USMC version with articulation? It is hard to tell with that grainy avatar. Please post up some more pics when you get time.
I have seen the duals in the front on 5 tons used as fire trucks. This is to overcome front blowouts due to rocks. Same premise as rear, one can go flat and you can keep 'er going. Probably not too good on a 2.5 ton, unless you have some kind of power steering.
My neighbor is looking to sell, trade, or part out a M819 Tractor Wrecker. It actually runs good, but eeds paint, glass and a few small repairs. I haven't got any pics yet, but I will. He is contemplating removing the crane assembly and selling it. Anyone need one?
