NDCC Tire Design --> Obsolete and Unsafe?

Found this on www.globalsecurity.org when looking for info on 5 tons... The nondirectional cross country (NDCC) tire design on the M939 basic truck was engineered for cross-country applications prior to World War II. Changes in vehicle speeds, road construction, mission requirements, as well as...

What did these rims come on

Sermis- They must be from the M939 series A1 trucks. Check out this comparison pic. Note the 20 bolt has additional holes for the CTIS. Let me know what you decide on the rims.

    Red River Army Depot Visit

Rumplecat- Red River Parts & Equipment is just across I-30 from the truck gate. Here is their website http://www.redriverparts.com.

    Put on my top!

Looks great Buggyman! Is that the original bed? It looks very high in the second pic and I don't see any camo paint on it. I didn't know you could daylight through there!

    Welded Diffs and Lockers

I doubt there will ever be an ARB 5 ton locker. Not a big enough market.

    Welded Diffs and Lockers

I'm working on an M820 right now. I have been to boyces website and have asked about the lockers. They even sent me a pic. Good stuff, but @ $900 each delivered, I was looking at other options. I've got more than a few axles to do.

    Welded Diffs and Lockers

Even on a 5 ton? USMC trucks use detroits and I don't think it limits their payload capacity. Since I have a spare pumkin in the yard, I'm planning a little test. Also, the M1075 has air lockers in all 5 axles. It grosses 90,000# and with 500 hp and 1500 ft-lbs, never had a problem...

    Welded Diffs and Lockers

Thanks, Buggyman. I have been to Ouversons website before. Good stuff for 2.5 Tons. Not much for 5 tons. Got the valve stems ordered today. Thanks again.

    Welded Diffs and Lockers

I am interested in adding lockers to a few of my trucks. I like the idea of the ARB air locker for the 2.5 ton, especially in the front axles. I think Detroit's would be good in the rear, and have also heard several guys just weld up the diffs like a spool on 2.5 tons. What about welding a...

ARB Rockwell Lockers on the way, soon! Reserve yours today!

Dshock- If you only put 1 locker on a 6x6, which axle is best?

Pics of my singled 5-ton with 16-20's - just finished!

DMA- Good idea on changing tires without removing the wheel. Have you tried this?

    2007 a good year to get a 5 ton

Wow, I see all sorts of stuff I could use. Let's hope Foreign Military Sales doesn't hoard all of them like they usually do.

Lots of Military Vehicles on GSA site in MO - ends Jan 15th

Bruce, I think you make good points and I value your opinions. When you mentioned about high bidder wins, I thought that is the way it should be, especially with public auctions. If possible, we shouldn't bid against each other. But if we do, then we do. I can respect that. I sent you 2...

Lots of Military Vehicles on GSA site in MO - ends Jan 15th

I like to share my finds with other MVers. And I like to hear about stuff from you guys as well. Auctions are auctions, and the highest price wins. They are open to the public and we are naive to think that Steel Soldiers members and lurkers have the market cornered on military surplus, or...

    2003 Stewart & Stevenson 2.5 Ton LMTV Deuce-and-a-Half

When I tried the old FMTV website for Stewart & Stevenson www.ssss.com I was directed to a new owner. "Armor Holdings Aerospace & Defense has acquired the manufacturer of the FMTV fleet from Stewart & Stevenson. We have a number of field service representatives deployed world-wide to support...

    M814?

Why not just get an M819?

    tractors, tractors, and more tractors

There are 3 wheelbases for the M39/M809/M939 series 5 tons: 167, 179, 215". The M818 is 167" and the M814 is 215". To convert a M814 to a tractor, you would need to cut off some frame overhang. The M819 has the 215" wheelbase but the same length frame as a standard 5 ton so the 5th wheel...
