One piston(good one) is out of the old 1999 CUCV-II 6.5l turbo-charged engine with 16,000 miles. The other(bad one) is out of a 2007 GEP 6.5l non-turbo engine with 150 miles.
I was trying to do this a cheap way by using parts onhand.
1. Could I just replace all the pistons in the GEP engine...
The numbers Inside each piston are the same:
10238517
339P
52
GM 83806 (the 8 could be a B)
Next set of pictures will show a differance on the outside of the piston(see black arrows)
Mike.
I bought a new stock filter.(see picture) I almost went with the "airdog system, but a little to much $$$.
I was planning on putting a fuel gauge before the filter to see my pump pressure and a gauge after the filter to see when my filter needs to be changed.
Still looking at which name...
Well, I couldn't wait until morning so I did a little work on the engine. Everything looks good except for the one piston with the chewed up glow plug.
The piston I removed from the CUCV-II's old engine looks like it will work(see pictures)
Worked on pulling the 6.5 engine out of the Dually today. Took about 5 hours to do by myself. I'll open up the engine Sunday and see if there are any problems inside. Hope all I have to do is replace the bad piston.
Just ordered a 3 gauge setup: Ultra Lite II Series Gauges, Boost 0-35psi, Trans Temp 100-250 deg F, Pyrometer 0-1600 deg F. All with senders. Also a three pod, A-Pillar for the gauges. Total $ 364.00 shipped.
Got my Spanner Wrench in the mail today also. eB*Y $ 48.00 and a NEW, Fuel filter...
Some more pictures: Piston with glow plug chewed up on top.
Plans are to use parts from the CUCV-II 6.5 engine to fix this engine. Also adding a new Banks turbo system that I bought last year, a new water pump and maybe go with an electic fuel pump. I'll know more after I pull the engine.
It's time to get my M1028A2 Dually back on the road. The CUCV-II rebuild is still on going with little things here and there. overall it turned out well.

Now for the Dually. A little history first: about 5 months ago...
Hey Kenny, you should of stopped and checked it out. Its my daily driver now.
I think I saw your friends M1009 pulling a M105 trailer heading north on turnpike Friday.
"Here are some pictures of the CUCV2 Tahoe and Suburban."
Every time I see these pictures I say to myself “why didn't I bid a little higher" now I remember...The Wife was looking over my shoulder when I was bidding.:-(
Not a problem, I'll know by Sunday night. Might make the trip Monday(my day off) if your not working. We can load it in the back of the truck. Or on my trailer(just switch out my can for Ian's can. I need to put my old engine that is on the back of my trailer into my can also)
Kenny,
I still love my Dually. When I get that engine fixed and Banks Turbo installed(another rebuild thread soon to come) I'll be driving it as I know my wife will want the CUCV-II for herself.
Thanks WARWAG !!!
I'm not done with this CUCV-II yet. Its going to get some cool add-ons and a new paint job. Just don't know if I'll keep it TAN or go CAMO.(the wife says TAN is OK but she doesn"t like CAMO, I think I'll paint it CAMO just because. lol)
One of my Soldiers has the scan tool so...
It's kind of funny, I bought the truck in Tampa in 2008 and trailered it home, stopping in Lake Worth at the TSC store on the way. Now 3 years later it makes it first trip back to Tampa and I stop at the same store(this time not on a trailer).
First two pictures are at TSC parking lot in 2008...
