Is your SAE #3 from a BBC to Allison? I have one of those and the bell is too short in depth so a #3 spacer of a couple maybe 3-4" long would need to be made/purchased...installed to get the right input and pilot depth. OH, and the pilot bearing is in the flywheel on the BBC factory bell...
Careful on that- one of those bellhousings is how I swapped a 427 tall deck in my M715 with the 3053A tranny, BUT...not all of the 366 & 427 (6 & 7 liter...or ealier SBC versions) had the correct bellhousing. Only certain ones are dual pattern. One pattern is for the big Dana (typically) 4 speed...
Sorry mate, the 12V71's were there own block...all 12 holes not two V6's like the later V12's. See link for 12V71 block pics.
Detroit Diesel 12V-71 Block
Ha! You sucker! roflYeah...the pics I took years ago! LOL!
That also reminds me of what else M715 guys can do. Tim, you know this but for some others...that's an NP205 with the NP200's factory e-brake on it. The rear output housing uses different bearing between the two cases but with...
Well put-
Yeah...putting a rear mount on the 3053A's can be a bugger! :-D Tim, if you're ever around that 6.2 truck I put together again, check out the NP205's driver side mount. Used the PTO port since there wasn't going to be a 10K Garwood under the bed of that too. Wow was that an easy...
Mine ran and worked very well in the M715 with the NV4500's decent OD and even with the stock deep axle gearing. One thing...this set up is tough to round up if you don't have donor parts and have to find them individually. A 6.2 manual flywheel isn't the easiest thing to find. The drive is...
I put a 6.2 in an M715 with an NV4500 (Chevy 2wd style) then swapped out the NP200 for a Dodge fine spline NP205. 6.2 is slightly larger than a small block and not as big as the BBC. I have put all mentioned into M715's and they all fit well. I don't know what you're doing for engine...
Gents...not to keep picking a wound but hydro boost is not really where we should be looking. Hydro MAX is the system that should be looked at. The International S1700, those monster 4x4 trucks with the dually pick up bed, etc use the Hydro MAX system. Big tires add more rotating mass and...
Generally unless you had one sitting in the bilges of your yacht...you would only see the hp numbers in the 400's hp. BUT in marine use with the two factory compressors (simple needed to run, not hot rod in anyway) then power adders like singe and twin cooled turbos you could see them 1,000hp or...
Travis, thanks for the reply on my post. It was just sort of thinking out loud (typed) about what my research had turned up.
1600*? Yeah...that pretty warm.
Another popular reason for doing the U-bolts with the hardware up top at the spring is for offroad use. Look at the front U-bolts on a couple of dueces and look at the section of bolt sticking down and the threads on them. They're usually chunked up or have a bolt bent from tagging stuff...
That is an awesome truck build!!!
I put a Hydro Max system on my crane truck and I love it, love it, love it! Towbarring another deuce truck w/w bring me to a total combined weight of around 32,000lbs and the Hydro Max will slow me down with my big toe and I haven't any worries since it's...
On what is my current crane truck- when I first got it it was a stock WO/W A2 truck. My starter went bad so my first modification was to pull the starter motor (engine still attached) and replace it with an 1160 V8 225hp CAT. I really hate working on starters.
A quick word on the 6.5 turbo diesels in factory form with the computer; the computer was mounted...basically on the engine just above the valve cover and saw a lot of engine heat. A friend of mine was on his third ($$$) computer before he found a company that sold a finned aluminum heat sink...
Gotta double check those winch in-out clutches and make sure they're OUT when not in use. I got a free winch line from a fire company when they left the clutch in and bumped the pto shifter going through the woods for a brush fire and blew the bottom rod out of the winch.
The 'birfield'...
Hey man! Good to see ya! Yeah...now that I've got the PO's bugs and poor maintenance rebuilt out of it...it's quite a workhorse. Front winch project is coming along well. Lots of time machining parts and thinking. Not going to be a typical permanent type mount, but be a pick-off type mount...
