My initial calculations full tank, run x miles, then fill the tank up again and use that point for the amount of fuel used said I was getting 14 mpg, that surprised me, but I kept idling down to 3 hours for 16 hours driven, so perhaps that helped a touch. And I was going 45-50 on average, with a...
I rolled through a weigh station, they stopped me. Not to check me for regulatory compliance, but rather because I had a nice rig and a neat trailer load in the form of a WWII armored car. They were nice and it gave me a chance to walk around the truck and check the binders, check the tires and...
I'm going to hazard an estimate and say that my experiment of carpet in the deuce was successful. Basically, gray indoor/outdoor carpet that I already owned, cut into three sections on the floors, one on either side of the tunnel and one over the tunnel going under the other two sections.
Yep. Left it behind Jim Burrill's barn. He's had Bren Carriers and a C15 CMP truck in the past so he's very MV friendly. The Dingo is snug and warm in his barn with about 5 tons of his WWII kit, radios, and other bits. We'll be going to the Reading Airshow and perhaps Aberdeen, so it made more...
yep, I made it up there. I had a long weekend driving around in the woods of Fort Indiantown Gap flanking Germans and then a not so quick trip to Hatfield, PA. Then Monday I caught the train back to Atlanta, leaving the truck up in PA at my friend's place.
Work, naturally had lots of things...
If the wheel has lost pressure and the ring has slipped, it can pop off under re-inflation pressure as well. I built a clip on inflator kit so I can hook a yellow coiled hose in between the hand valve and the inflator so I can step way the heck back from inflating a suspect tire.
You can't do anything but take your time. It took me nearly 10 hours to get to Staunton. Left the Ga Border area at around 10am. Around 500 miles. Granted, I have stopped every so often to check the truck out. 3 hours stopped time 10 hours drive time, (that's when the truck is running, fuel...
I think I have everything I need. Wow, took me all day to get loaded up and I was already loaded up partially. Takes too long when you've got only yourself and you're trying to figure out a loadplan for Modern and WWII kit on the same truck.
I'm headed out. I'll have my cel phone 404-545-6205...
Yaay, fuel tank sludge. It took two filter changes on my 813 and a siphoning most of the fuel out into a filter to get that all cleared up. Fuel went back into the tank after being run through some fine cloth to filter it again. Interestingly fine cloth seems to catch the water and as more water...
Jim, it'll depend on your state's laws. If you're not driving the vehicle in connection with a commercial enterprise (ads on the side of a race trailer make it commercial) then you're not going to be considered commercial according to federal standards. However, state standards can be more...
So wednesday, I'll be headed out to Fort Indiantown Gap PA for a WWII event. This'll be the first WWII event I'll be taking the Dingo to with my own truck. Part of the original reason I bought the 5 ton and then the deuce. So I could spend a few hundred instead of a thousand moving my WWII...
Ok, this muffler s much quieter. I can hear other sounds from the engine compartment. I figure some insulation inside the hood and side panels will make this a much more quiet vehicle.
I just installed 3 bits of carpet in the foot wells and over the transmission hump. In addition to the muffler, I suspect this will keep things very quiet.
I have some grey indoor and outdoor short pile carpet. Several rolls. I could easily lay this in the cag over the floor for some adhoc insulation and make the truck more comfortable for the long drive. I've thought about a layer or two of rhino liner too, but haven't taken the time to buy it and...
Art Bloom sells some units as well. I needed one in a hurry though and he wasn't able to get them in time sadly. The one I ended up buying is open, so if I go fording too deep, I'll short it out. So, I'll eventually have to order a sealed unit and relegate this one to the S250 camper project.
Well, there's a massive MV auction in Melborne Australia that would get you well on the way. But, you'd need to store it inside. Its apparently a first class collection from a museum that's closing. Sad that.
Put the fuel filler in the right place and you'd be able to fill up easily from the side of the truck standing on the side of the truck. I guess I'm thinking of a custom bed or cab that would have external stowage boxes for a lot of stuff that's normally down on the side below and outside of the...
The thing I was sitting here thinking about with these 4x4 Deuces is that the Tool box and other kit hanging down on the frame could result in some ground clearance issues. Seems like either Nerf Bars or Relocating all that extra hardware higher up (Bed mounted fuel tank) or with a custom bed...
