Didn't know you could find a Chelsea PTO to mount to the 5-ton trans. I know the Chelsea for the deuce is as scarce as hens teeth.
We use the air PTOs on everything. It's just a nicer setup and you don't have to worry about routing a cable.
That thing looks like a death trap to me with the people under the jacked up truck. I doubt that "cribbing" would stay under there if it fell of the high lifts. Glad nobody got hurt. :grd:
Anybody have anything to add to this thread? I'm thinking about putting a knuckleboom crane behind the cab of my M932. I'd use it for general lifting duties but would also like some sort of grapple on it.
I've had several people in the past wanting me to pick up scrap iron and such but it's...
This is what I'd do. IMO it's a lot easier to remove the front engine mount bolts than it is to disassemble the box to get it out. There's a couple of cover bolts that can still be a pain to get out disassembling the box
"wet kit" is just trucker slang for what PB said.
PB, while we're talking trailers I've got a question. Does your trailer have 17.5 rubber? The trailer in the pic above has blowouts fairly often. I was just wondering what kind of luck you were having. I know a lot of the newer trailers have...
I'll agree with that. I've got a 45K wrecker winch mounted on the back of a KW. It's hyd drive but the hyd motor is civilian and geared to pull the full 45K. I've broken the cable more than once folding the neck on a M870 with a heavy load on the deck.
The front wouldn't be too bad but the rear axle articulates a bunch. I wouldn't be worried about the slip yokes as much as I would excessive u-joint angles. I'm not saying it couldn't be done but it's going to take some figuring.
We had a pony motor on our sliding axle tilt trailer. It got to be such a pain we took it off. Seemed like every time you went somewhere it would be out of gas (you can't just run to the store in a tractor/trailer) or you'd have to tinker with it to get it to run right. We swapped over to wet...
The only hard part is reaching the adjusting nut. It's not too bad if you're just turning it a little but if you have to back it all the way off and it's rusty, that's a lot of rounds to turn. That's one unintended advantages of putting a dump on my truck. You just raise the bed and it's right...
How are you going to drive the pump?
I've thought about doing the same with my M932. It's already got the pump and tank for the winch. All I'd have to do is add a valve and wet lines.
Another problem with driving something off the axle drive flange is axle articulation. The axles move quite a bit and it would be hard to attach a driveline without binding.
There's a spring that can break that can cause it to drag. How did you notice the brake was on? was the brake handle up? Sounds like maybe your buddy forgot to release the brake.
That's one bad thing about worn or out of adjustment parking brakes. They don't hold enough for a inexperienced...
There's a big difference in having electric PS on a small car than it is a deuce. Electric hyd pumps are better suited to run intermittently for things like dump beds.
1) they draw a lot of amps
2) they tend to get hot and not last long if run for long periods of time
3) I bet you can buy a hyd...
I may be mistaken but I think Jake is talking about the axle drive flange. No you cannot drive a hyd pump off of the axle flange. Well, I guess you could but it would only pump while moving and speed would be dependent on ground speed. The front tandem axle and the rear axle are the exact same...
But when the frame is rusted out, isn't the rest of the truck pretty well shot also?
Vehicles around here will rust pretty good but you don't see too many rusted out frames. Rust has gotten a lot worse since they started using brine water. They will put that stuff down when there is the...
When I noticed it I thought "hmm $60, that sounds like a heck of a deal" then added it to the watchlist and went on. A few minutes later I thought "wait a minute, that item was less than $150" and went back to the lot to confirm it. I then thought it was a typo also until I noticed several other...
