Well after getting the truck home, I decided to get it running today. After two hot batteries, a fuse replaced in the fuel pump, and a family of mice cleaned out of the air cleaner she was ready to go. It fired right up but it's knocking really bad. :(
The truck body is as straight and rust...
The spring goes on the inside is another way to describe which way the seals go. Look at the pic. The side facing up goes toward the oil. The side facing down goes toward the outside.
I checked awhile back and I found out that short of having a gear custom made, you won't find one. Chelsea did make a gear but it's been obsolete for several years. I couldn't get anybody to ever confirm that Muncie ever made a gear. If you can find somebody with an old Chelsea catalog it's in...
Thanks Carnac. I was going to post the numbers in the "vin info thread" but I guess I don't have to now.
David got back to me. He confirms the info you gave.
EVERYTHING MUST GO. Hurry while supplies last.
You know, I griped about the old classifieds as much as anybody but I think for some reason I'm going to miss it. I did like how you could go to your classifieds profile and keep track of what you had selling or sold.
Welcome to the site. Just one friendly reminder, it's best not to put "HELP, HELP" in the thread title if you're not stranded on the side of the road somewhere. Things like that are considered the same as dialing 911. ;-)
I picked the truck up today. Turns out it's kind of a oddball. The data plate says " AM general, M50A3, with a '73 contract year". I know the data plate is wrong. The frame number is 0129-10079. According to David Doyle's MVM article, a 0129 doesn't exist. I've e-mailed David with the frame...
I actually saw the truck (I ended up with the bed in the pic) and I seem to remember it had a turbo. It's been awhile so I could be wrong though.
Edit: I went back and looked at the pic. Small stack. That would indicate NA.
If that's the case, I'd set the timing to whatever a mutifuel turbo...
There are truck driving schools all over the country. I'd assume part of the class pertains to the record keeping side of it.
I've got a truck and a Landoll type trailer to move my own equipment. I don't do much hauling for hire. One reason is I'm only legal for TN,KY, and AL. The other reason...
You should be able to get it hauled for $3.10 a mile (or less) without the removal fee.
Trucking quotes can vary widely. Finding a trucker looking for a back haul will be your cheapest. I'd put it on u-ship and see what happens.
