    Gillespie 383 CARC substitute

Gillespie paint is very forgiving. Just spray it on there and let dry. I usually do two coats just to get a good coverage and find spots I missed on the first coat.

    M747 destroyed by crooks

Most scrap yards are operated by crooks themselves. I know we have 3 local scrap yards around here and 2 of them are as bad as the thieves themselves. The one I deal with follows the laws and regs and will call the cops if something doesn't look right. The other two at the very least look the...

    925 5 ton question - CDL Required?

There has been talk of making you go to truck driving school to obtain a CDL. I'm not sure it's not already the case in TN. A friend of mine lost his job and was wanting to get a CDL to open up more options. They told him at the local drivers testing station that they wouldn't let him take the...

    M747 destroyed by crooks

John has a point but I'd still make him pay by whatever means necessary. There are ways to make someone's life a living he!! without a butt whipping. My buddy once had a guy steal a bunch of stuff from him (ex-employee). He knew 100% certain that he did it but didn't have enough hard evidence...

How many people get incorrect titles?

I've bought and titled quite a few trucks. The sf97 always has came with the same info I put on the form. Do you get a title instead of a sf97?

    Hobart Welder Quality?

You may can buy a "buzz box" Lincoln welder new for $300 (although I haven't seen them that cheap) but you can't buy a new Idealarc like the one posted for that. A new welder comparable to the one in the pic is around $2,000. I've seen them go used for $800 or more but you can find them cheaper...

    Hobart Welder Quality?

Most of the time when they come out with a new Miller model, the old model becomes the Hobart. So what you're basically getting is the older model Miller. Nothing wrong with that and it can sometimes be an advantage. I went for years trying different smaller 220v models of all brands. Never...

Allis Chalmers Model 7000 diesel engine

Buda is not still in business. Allis Chalmers bought them out in the 1950s. When they bought them the re-badged the Buda engines AC and built engines in old Buda plant in Harvey,IL until AC went out of business in 1985. There is a outfit called "Buda Engine Company" out of LA but all they do...

    Looking at 923's

No, they aren't. The federal government has a minimum set of standards that states must follow but states can and do add more regulations. What works in my state doesn't necessarily work in other states. They have been slowly trying to get a uniform set of laws for all states and it is better...

No Driving Off Base-New Recovery Rules?

I'm also in the machinery moving business and this GL deal is a common trend everywhere. A lot of it boils down to liability. A lot of private auction companies won't even let you on the sale lot to move something without a minimum of $1M of insurance (we carry $2M). Take the truck driver Jeff...

Stanadyne / Roosa Master Inj. Pump problems

All the info I gave is for agriculture engines. I was just assuming that the military version is the same. What's wrong with the engine? I'd be interested in the whole thing depending what condition it's in ( I have to think there's some reason it's at the scrap yard). If nothing else, pull...

Dome light install in a hardtop

Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles Supersite - View Profile: tbanks did have a bunch of them for sale. Don't know if he has any left or not. You can also usually find them on ebay. I can get them new but they are awfully pricey.

    New Guy in 'bama

Alabama huh? Watch out for the crazy old possum man. Just kidding. I'm sure you'll meet him soon enough. Welcome abord.

    Paint inside assemblies

Just about every gear case I've been into has that red paint. I have no idea what kind it is. I wouldn't worry about replacing it though. I'd worry whatever I painted in it's place wouldn't adhere good and end up in the bearings and such.

    Dump Bed Kit Installation

The best way I've heard of is to take four 55 gal drums. Jack the bed up and put pieces of pipe between bed and frame. Hook the bed to a tree or something and pull forward a couple of feet place two drums under the bed overhang off the back. Pull forward again until the bed is almost at the end...

    Dump Bed Kit Installation

That's what I was wondering. He said that like everybody has a wrecker around back. :p Shoot, with a wrecker you don't even need a dump. Just hook the boom to the front shackle mounts and lift the whole truck up.

    Dump Bed Kit Installation

What's the dump capacity of that setup? I've installed two deuce dumps myself. One with a scissor hoist like yours and another with a telescoping cylinder. I had to do more crossmember clearance than you did on the scissor setup. My hoist is also mounted much closer to the front than yours.

    Winch Teardown Q

I may have a good used band if you need it. I replaced one bearing on my winch (don't remember which one). Got it from NAPA. I don't remember the price but it was fairly high and I later found it a lot cheaper on line.

New EPA Regulations On Large Truck Emissions

I don't know enough about the law to say if it applies to ALL vehicles or not. I will say that they can come after the older vehicles if they want to. Driving a motor vehicle on public roads is a privilege, not a right. The government can take away privileges any time they want to. I may not...

    M747 destroyed by crooks

I take it you're not any closer to finding out who cut it off? It may be tough finding a "parts" trailer. The good thing is it wouldn't be too hard to fab from scratch. Buy the time it's said and done it may be cheaper just to buy another trailer if you can't do the repair work yourself. Steel...
