Depending on the model of the wrecker is why I said brake(s), 939 series would have the spring parking brakes on the rear axles and the wee little axle brake. I never understood why they put a single drum brake and expect it to last in the hands of a private.

Those hydraulic motors have good motor brakes in them.

Problem with just rolling weight is it is very easy to pull. I pulled my 818 with my 4 wheeler couple weeks ago when my batteries died.
You would have to have resistive pulling to get the results you are looking for.

That problem sort of sounds very similar to the truck I was driving. Would stall when dropping into first. Coupled with the charging issue I bet it was the darn computer messing up.
I'll defiantly pass that on to the owner for his guy to check that out.
Food for thought, when doing really heavy loads like that manually shift the auto and keep it in 2nd. Dropping it in first will after being in second would just wind out to much, second is just right for the girls.

Well waiting on more parts so I decided to get the grinder out and knock some paint and surface rust off and paint a little.

I was using a pilot tool, set it straight and when I started tapping it in it went crooked, getting it out is where the fun was.
The big carrier is still in the axle housing so I'm having to stand up behind it to hold it up and tap it in.
It is being a real PITA.
I'm going to get some dry ice when the new assemblies come in and freeze them and heat up the area at the same time.

I just ordered two new complete assemblies from boyce equipment, now I just have to get the rest of the inner seal carrier out. I'll try freezing it, but time is running thin on this.
Went to install the new inner seal and it will not seat in. Used a seal driver kit and all I managed to do was destroy two brand new seals.
Start pressing the seal in straight and it goes crooked and bends the casing.
I don't know what to do anymore, I officially give up on this.
