XLs are known as prone to blow the sidewalls. If given a choice, select other tire models, especially for the steer axle.
My personal preferences are XZLs as first choice, and AT2s as 2nd choice.
You may consider changing all 7 tires to 395 XZLs once you get it home.
If you end up dead on...
Talk to ke5eua regarding inadvertent bumping of the transfer case into 4wd while flat towing...and the resultant badness.
I reluctantly find myself in agreement with cucvrus. The extra precautions, although almost certainly unnecessary, may pay off disproportionately to the effort required...
Any towbar with 1" feet. Medium towbars, medium-heavy, even the heavy towbar as long as you have the 1" feet.
As stated above, pull the driveshaft - it's quick and easy.
Be aware of towing truck to cucv distance. Frequently you can turn sharp enough to make contact, especially turning...
Redtruck and the M1101 are staying in OK until I can get back there to get them.
I left Lindsey's towing the M925 with the M923, destination Socorro NM to drop the G177s. I stop every 150 miles or so and top off the fuel and the coolant. I went about halfway and slept.
The following day I...
Loaded the g177s the following day, and loaded some other stuff for some other SS members to transport back towards Tucson.
Changed a flat on the M925, using the inner dual to lift the truck.
A more detailed PMCS the next morning revealed a leak in the radiator of the towing M923. It leaks about a gallon every 200 miles.
An all day drive has us to Lindsey's in OK. We pulled the G177s off his tan truck and mounted my 16R20's in their place (I knew they'd find a good home).
It was...
On the way to the hotel I was leading while driving the M923 with M925 on towbars like a persistent tailgater. Lindsey97 was behind me in the tan M923 and his buddy followed in redtruck with M1101. I was going from memory as to route.
I screwed it up and we ended up about 10 miles off course...
The drive out was delayed by some kind of hostage situation shutting down I 10. Dead stop for over 3 hours. Instead of arriving in OKC around 5pm, I got there at 0100 Friday morning. I had three 14.00R20s in the bed of redtruck. 2 were returning the tires Lindsey had given me for my flats on the...
So, it was so much fun the first time I thought I'd do it again. The plan this time was fly to OKC and have Lindsey97 pick me up and then we'd go pick up a truck or two out of Ft Riley.
It didn't turn out quite that way. Instead of flying, I managed to sell my M105A2 to a fellow SS member in...
I won a truck on Wednesday and picked it up Friday. Thankfully no EUC needed on the M939 trucks...
Now if only I could figure out why the transmission needs an EUC...
OP, post up some pics. Let's see what you got .....
That nice looking tan M923A2 put a rod through the block 6 miles off post. I was talking to the guy at the Sapp's truck stop where they had stopped for fuel with the deceased truck on a flatbed. I came *that* close to chasing that truck at auction . I feel like I dodged a bullet.
I just got...
While you don't need the CDL, you most certainly do need the knowledge that would be required to get one.
These are big heavy airbrake vehicles that behave very differently than a passenger car or light truck. You really really need to understand how to operate it competently, whether or not...
I'd consider a 5ton for a daily driver if work was a large parking lot less than 10 miles away and driven by back roads at a comfortable 45mph and ambient temp of 70 degrees.
In Phoenix, with traffic conditions that I've seen there, 115 degrees with sun pounding down on you, and engine heat...
