MEP003A Ok to run in the rain / jump start?

I'd have trench through the septic or go waaaay around which would add a lot of length. Don't forget that the 350' (house to barn) is in addition to the 600' (pole to house) for a total of 950' which is a lot of line loss. I've got some 12 volt leds, deep cycle battery and an inverter for...

MEP003A Ok to run in the rain / jump start?

Well the house is 600' from the road. The power company only guarantees voltage 350' from the pole, however I've never had any problems at the house. The barn is another 350' from the house which would result in lots of line loss. I could probably run some lights but not start motors or weld...

MEP003A Ok to run in the rain / jump start?

My problem is that my 003A is kept at the barn where there is no power. When I loose power at the house, I pull the 003A up to the house and (occasionally) find that the batteries are down. I have no way of charging them at the barn other than my Solargizer which I think is acting up as it no...

MEP003A Ok to run in the rain / jump start?

My MEP003a lives under a tarp and when I need to use it I pull the tarp and fire it up. Yesterday we had mucho storms and we lost power and we sat in the dark as we were being dumped on with freezing rain / rain. The wife was complaining but I wasn't real thrilled about running the 003a in the...

MEP 003A Push Rod Tube Oil Leak (I think)...

The picts helped vs the TM drawings figuring out how it goes together. When Jimc said to be careful of the thin walled tubbing he wasn't kidding as mine is now sporting a minor dent. The push rod tube moved a little so it's not frozen. I'll keep an eye on it and if it becomes too problematic...

MEP 003A Push Rod Tube Oil Leak (I think)...

It's not leaking to the point that I want to pull the head. I'll keep an eye on it and if it worsens I guess I know what I'll need. Thanks,

MEP 003A Push Rod Tube Oil Leak (I think)...

I've noticed an oil leak, which appears to be coming from the top of the push rod tube. I looked pretty close and it's not coming from the valve cover and leaking down. In looking at the TM is looks like there is some sort of packing in the push rod tube, which I'm guessing is a oil seal of...

    MEP 003A Oil Lines....

They are parts numbers 27 to 36 on page 144 of the parts manual. I thought they were oil lines?

    MEP 003A Oil Lines....

One of the small diameter oil lines under the air shroud is leaking (above and to the left of the oil filter). Are they the same size and material as automotive brake lines? It looks as if it would be an easy fix with some brake line and a flare tool... Poly

003a starter grinding and a couple of other issues....

Wooot, I ordered the offending plastic governor linkage ball joint from Tom at Gulf Coast and it's back up and running. Once it warms up outside I'm going to look at the starter as it appears that the bendix is sticking and check into the little fuel drains. Thanks all.....

003a starter grinding and a couple of other issues....

Nothing like working on a generator when it's cold out. That said, after looking at it a little closer I found that the lower plastic ball joint on the governor linkage split in half (page 132 in the parts manual). I see that the top ball joint has a parts number but the bottom one doesn't are...

003a starter grinding and a couple of other issues....

I've got a couple off issues that are plaguing my 003a: 1. Last week when I went to start it for it's monthly run, I noticed that the fuel didn't seem to be draining back into the tank (normally I can hear it) when the switch was in the prime setting. I wasn't sure if it was due to the fact...

MEP 003A ch6pl Oil Filter Question

I went out and changed it (as noted, 60 degrees is waaaaay better than -4) and found that I had a fat rubber washer between the filter and the engine block, a thin fiber washer between the filter and the spring/cup AND another fat rubber washer between the spring/cup and the filter housing...

MEP 003A ch6pl Oil Filter Question

The other day I was changing the oil / filter on the MEP 003a using a ch6pl filter. It fit correctly and it came with a number of big gaskets, one fit perfect and two small washer / seals. I didn't have the TM with me so I figured the fatter rubber washer went down by the spring and the thin...

Anyone know what it ended up going for? I stopped watching it when it was $730....

    Timing Marks on a MEP-002

When you push or pull on the speed control knob does the cable move (you can follow it down to the governor area to see)? If the cable is bound up and/or broken that may be your problem or it may be a droop / governor issue. You can also set the max speed (all of which is covered in the TM)...

    MEP 003A Starter Lockout Switch...

The starter lockout switch in my 003A hasn't ever worked right, resulting in the starter griding against the flywheel when starting. To work around it, I've gotten pretty good at releasing the switch at 'just the right time' to keep it from grinding. I've read the TM and adjusted the points...

    MEP 003A Oil..

I was discussing the 10w30 vs 15w40 deal with my Kubota dealer and he said that the smaller tractors (less than 40 hp or so) used the 10w30 and the bigger ones used the 15w40 (like the diesel trucks).

    MEP 003A Oil..

I've read the old posts and it seems that 15W40 or straight 30 is fine for the 003a. Where I live I see temps in the 90s during the summer and down to zero or below in the winter. Due to the hours I'll run it I'm a once a year oil change type of guy. All that said, my Kubota tractor needs...

    Need wisdom on genset perchase

The Miller webpage says that 875 needs 42 amps of single phase 230. The 003a puts out 52 amps of single phase 240 (230). That said it "should" work..
