Just replaced rear axle, now u-joint breaks

I'm hoping the shop will fix it at a decent rate since I wanted to change it when the axle was done...I don't have a garage at home to work on it myself, or the tools...the most I usually do is change the oil.

Just replaced rear axle, now u-joint breaks

I just replaced my rear axle, (ruined by 35" tires) with a brand new one from Coleman's less than 2 months ago, I asked the shop that was putting it in at least twice if I should get new u-bolts and a u-joint, since several people on this forum advised it. They assured me, "no, no, yours are...

    Fluid running down firewall!?!

Ok, seems the power steering lines under the hood are leaking like crazy...the expensive ones, not the rubber ones with the screw clamps. The fluid was empty. As for the fluid down the firewall, they think it's the hydrolic brake booster...but when I got home and checked the brake fluid, it was...

    Fluid running down firewall!?!

I got into my m1009 this afternoon and noticed the top of the floor mat on the driver's side looked wet, it was, so is the firewall behind it, (it's soaked into the insulation) and some of the floor. Not sure what on earth it is, but it's black and smells terrible, (like chemicals) and I doubt...

I put Bio in my CUCV!

You purge the return fuel line for a few seconds with the solenoid, (you'll need 2) before switching back over...but even then it's impossible to keep from cross contaminating the tanks a little. *sigh* I need to do my WVO conversion.

    fuel primer?

Got it started just by removing the black screw thingy and trying to start until fuel shot out, put the screw back in and cranked it again while pumping the pedal...awesome.

    fuel primer?

Thanks, I'll be trying this in a few minutes...is this normal fuel filter change procedure or did I screw something up?

    fuel primer?

Hi, stupid question I'm sure, but is there a fuel primer anywhere in the engine? I just did my first fuel filter change, went to start it up and of course it stalled after a few seconds and now won't start.

Just blew the rear in my '86 m1009

Truck is done, they are saying it took 8 hours, bill is over $600...how is this possible? How does axle replacement+e-brake and brake lines = 8 hours of labor and $600?

Any mechanics in northern RI/southern MA?

Any mechanics in northern RI/southern MA that don't rip people off? I haven't had my truck for over a month, and now the new axle install that was originally going to be $250-$300 is done and I'm being told it took 8 hours and the bill is $600+. I'm unemployed at the moment and only have the...

A question on the daily drivability of cucvs?

Re: RE: A question on the daily drivability of cucvs? It'll go a hell of alot faster than 50mph. It's only really loud when it first starts up cold. I've installed a cd player with ipod hookup in mine, put speaker boxes in the back over the wheel wells and put speakers in the doors. You can...

Just blew the rear in my '86 m1009

About to order the axle...will I need new hydrolic brake lines or any other expensive surprises I should buy first so the mechanic can't hit me with it? Where do I find the right u joints and u bolts and how many do I need?
  17. Wolfie

    stupid question...

How much does an m1009 weigh? I'm getting slammed on my registration renewal because of weight...apparently anything over 4000lbs is an uh oh.

Just blew the rear in my '86 m1009

I think I need new brake calipers all around, those like like they are about to rust right off. U-bolts and U-joints, got it.

Just blew the rear in my '86 m1009

No mechanical friends with access to a garage and tools, my life would be much easier if I could find such a wondrous thing. Right now I don't even have a place to do oil changes...without getting in trouble. Here's a question I need to know to avoid a 2nd butt raping, how many hours do you guys...

Just blew the rear in my '86 m1009

It is indeed a butt raping as I've found what he's talking about for $300 on ebay. I'm thinking of grabbing an entire new axle from Coleman's for $395 + $130 shipping and asking how much it'll be to throw that in.
