MB OM314 4 cylinder engine history, how well they run ,parts?

We have pull started the truck it ran fine with 100psi oil pressure and no death rattles. We have the Bosh 24 volt starter with 9 tooth gear. Is your starter 12 or 24 volt? I want to convert to a 12 volt starter if possible. Any ideas? I like Unimogs but getting too old for the cab climb.

MB OM314 4 cylinder engine history, how well they run ,parts?

I have a strange combo , a 1964 Ford F100 2wd pickup powered by a 4 cylinder MB OM314 direct injection diesel engine. Some one shoe horned the engine with an home made adapter plate . The MB runs well but I have to pull start start as the series parallel switch just buzzes. I read somewhere that...

    Idea for M-1082 RV Conversion

One idea from an ambulance conversion to deal with some built in red lights, I just spray painted them white and pulled the fuse to them. No need to cover holes if you removed them. Have fum Mark

Rebuilding "The Buff" M149 Water Buffalo.

Iron planet has lots of empty trailers for bid. You can pick an item for viewing and hit the SOLD button and you can find out what items brought at closed finished auctions. That gives you a base price for what trailers are bringing. I got a couple of generator trailers with Hummer wheels for...

Does it have Fast Axles or Not... that is the question

The old fashion mechanic test is to mark the drive shaft and the top of the tire and with all rear wheels on the ground count the drive shaft turns to one turn of the tire. This is a estimate only if tire diameter is stock height. Good luck Mark

    Chairbornrangers '67 M35 restore project

Good luck with the old iron. I would suggest you drain the fuel tank and check the bottom and baffles for rust and the creeping crud. It is easier to clean in the shop that stuck along the road in the dark. As for the bed rehab, if you are going to keep the truck long term it may be better to...

MKT 90 FIELD KITCHEN finds a Sucker to take her home!!!!

You all do not get your nickers in a twist over pictures. I took some with a cheap digital camera which come out like some of those famous blurry D Day photos whch were no good. I was the care giver of my 82 mother until her death and MKT photos took a back seat to life. I got new cell phone...

MKT 90 FIELD KITCHEN finds a Sucker to take her home!!!!

I needed to update my thread. I lucked out with Gov liquidation and ebay and ended up with two brand new complete ovens with pans and utensils included. I have to fuel up some MBUs and try out my power supply. I am going to power up the unit and see what happens. Mark

    Replacing floor in M38A1

I would suggest that you leave a lip of the floor pan welded originally to the Jeep and rest the new pans on the lip and reweld next to the body. I have learned a tip when stitch welding with a Mig is that the welding wire tip itself will glow long enough for you to see where your next spot weld...

    M37 Combat Wheels - Studs/Nuts

Be careful are the lug nuts left and right hand threads? You might find that NAPA or parts store may carry correct rim nuts. Also try fastener wholesale jobbers once you know size. Mark

    6 Door Deuce Crew Cab

I have seen on Diesel Brothers tv show were they have built several 6 door 4x4 civilian trucks but I have not seen any 6x6 6 door military trucks. I have a 1984 International S series crew cab truck and that cab would seat 6 easy. Do you have a big family or want to haul cheer leaders ? I would...

What have you done to your MKT this week???

I found once at Govliquidation brand new in the box MKT ovens with all the pots and pans and small kitchen tools, spoons etc. My MKT trailer was a veteran field kitchen with several pounds of yellow clay mud on the floors. I should have taken a soil sample and figured out where she had been last...

recently purchased an M37. please throw some knowledge my way.

I would soak the pistons and cylinders with some P.B. Blaster penetrating oil and turn engine over by hand some if stiff from sitting. It may help free up the piston rings. I would start soaking nuts and bolts with P,B. like lug nuts and bounce or pulse the pressure on a wrench not just turn...

    Lincoln Welders

Not sure about Lincoln SAE200 welders but I restarted a surplus WWII Hobart welder that had sat in a WVU agricultural engine lab for years. The thing fired up and had a fine voltage control on the end of a cable pigtail. It would make sense that a large welding company would make military...

What have you done to your MKT this week???

I plan to see what county food sanitarian says about cooking over diesel MKT burners and what requirements for triple bowl sink . I may make a rolling sink to store in alley way and then roll out on trailer end . I have to test my burners that I have scrounged up. Mark

    Thinking about a 1st Deuce

I would suggest that you find someone local that could give you some seat time to see what type of truck Deuce or 5 ton suits your wants and needs. You also need to consider your state's drivers license and liability insurance for your intended use. I have driven the Deuce and other straight...

    4.56 vs 4.10 Gears

I ran 3.73 gears in a re powered Jeep pickup and hauled 3+ tons of gravel with no problems. I have a Chevy 1 ton with 4 speed and 4.10 gears are too slow for Interstate speeds. I would suggest for balance of empty/ hauling to go with 3.73 Mark
