Members in/near Northern NJ: Want to start up a get together/ride

We're not using a boxcar this year. Besides the locomotive, our train consisted of 4 cars for 2014. First is the MNJ 380, a caboose supplied by the Middletown & New Jersey Railroad. To my knowledge, that's part of the train just so that the public can be happy that they saw a caboose, but...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Replaced the rubber fuel lines running into and out of my fuel filter base. I had been leaking diesel from somewhere in that area every time I ran the truck but I wasn't sure exactly where it was coming from. After work last night I started pulling parts figuring that those hoses where...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I tried out my new greasegun on the M1009's front suspension. It deserved something nice after I took it out on a 90 mile round trip yesterday in annoying weather.

    Para Cord Steering Wheel Wrap

As an Eagle Scout myself, I can tell you that all of us Eagles earned that designation by first being Boy Scouts. I can also tell you that I have no idea how he made that rope look that good!

    gorilla tape!

Hey... I'm using authentic military 100mph tape. It seemed like an appropriate solution to me.

    HEMTT vs. 2010 Camaro

It has the slot in the center of the nose above the grill and below the hood... it was a V8 car.

    Directionals work with key off.

Both my M1009's do it to, and I've read on here that this seems to be standard for CUCV's. I have no idea what the logic behind this would be.

YES! The title finally came for the M1009

Yup... looks like plastic body panels to me!

    Speedo way too fast

Well, I fixed it through the FM method (F-ing Magic, that is). On my ride home from the office, the mechanical noise got progressively quieter and now the speedo seems to work just fine again. I'll keep an eye on it in the future, and I will try to clean and regrease that cable the next time I...

    Speedo way too fast

I had an interesting ride to work this morning in my '85 M1009. About 2 blocks into the trip, I notice that the speedometer jumped from around 30mph to roughly 75mph nearly instantly, all without me noticing the fighterjet levels of acceleration that should have accompanied such a jump. As...

    Differential Plug from ****!!

I knew how much was supposed to go in and proceeded on faith. Haven't had a problem yet.

    Differential Plug from ****!!

I never did get mine out on my '84. After I left it out overnight in the parking lot with the diff cover sitting in the cargo area, I either found an old post somewhere on here or someone suggested in a new post (can't remember which at the moment) that the vent tube can be used to fill the...

Now lets see your truck in the snow

Before I cleaned off my new pickup and the CUCV. We had about 9 inches total since it started just after noon yesterday. I managed to get the driver's door window installed about 40 minutes before it started coming down.

Knowing what an M-1008 or 9 is

I normally keep both of my M1009's in driveways that belong to family members. For the last week though, my '85 has been parked in between 2 service vans in my apartment complex lot. As I was finishing installing the driver's side window (only about an hour before snow started falling), one of...

    Scored a 85' M1009

The stars on the bumpers were on all of these trucks. AM/FM radios were fairly common "unofficial" modifications to these trucks during their service. It does look like a very nice truck you got, certainly nicer overall than my '85 M1009.

    Looking For M1009 or M1008

Define "perfect truck". I have a pair of M1009's available and I'm in Union County. My asking price on either one is under your budget.

    Dodged a bullet

I tried it multiple times... those buggers were just too stubborn to come out. Maybe the ones you have won't be as bad as mine, so its still worth a shot.

    Veggie M1009 Day 1

I can't stop laughing about the concept of a Mercedes that permanently smells like pizza on the inside and permanently smells like french fries on the outside. :-D

so who here has set up there m 1031 to.......

Please make sure you use a proper UL listed transfer switch. If you just plug in while your house is still connected to the outside utility it could mean a lineman's life.

Best Thing You've Found in Your CUCV

My '84 came with 5 brand new glowplugs in the glovebox... still sitting in their individual boxes. It also had 3 half-empty quart bottles of trans fluid behind the drivers seat. The funniest was the 3 rags plus a plastic funnel that I dug out of the driver's side fender.
