    motor change

An engine in the same family as the 250 will be easier, (270,290, 335, 350 & such) but if you already have an 8.3 that make a big difference. be aware the 8.3 is 505 cubic inches, the 250 (& family) is 855 cubic inches. No replacement for displacement. sounds like a project, go for it

    m37 engine swap??

Hello, my first post in this forum. Just talked with a friend, he works for a man that has a few m37's, some totally restored, some for parts and some in-between. Seems a "not scrap but not quite enough there for a correct rebuild" m37 is available, cheap. no cargo body, no dash, no seat,no...

Noisey 5th gear / teeth rubbing???

Richard, Rusted gears = no big deal, as long as we are talking about light surface rust. Big, deep pits are obviously not good. Gears are comparatively crude devices, (contrast ball bearing here, which need fine tolerances), In a perfect world, no compromises are needed, go from there.

    NHC250 Cummins fuel rail pressure

If the fuel pressure didn't drop at high idle, the engine rpm would continue to climb until it grenaded itself.

    M816 Cummins egine mods needed

I put a viscous drive fan on mine, now I don't sound like an A-10 when I go down the road. I had to do some machine work on the hub, cut and balance the blades, and modify the fan shroud, but the end result was worth the effort. I think the fan donor was a GMC Brigadier with a 6v-92 detroit...

    Caterpillar 3116 engine

Overheat a 3116 once and the rings go soft. Engine then uses oil. Electronic version of this motor is the 3126. The control interface on the 3126 will pull the fuel rate down when the temp. goes up, 3126 is a much better engine. been there, done that, got the hat.

    help! M62 Conversion to diesel

I put a big cummins in a gasser once, if you don't mind a little front end modification, any thing is possible. Put the engine in place, bolt up the bell, start fabricating . Not for the average mechanic, but a nice challenge for those who can think. Good luck, welcome to this site, lots of...

    M817 Dump Truck Project Begins

From the pics you have posted, seems you have a good handle on this rebuild. In my opinion, the 855 cummins, in all of of it's different configurations, is the most 'mechanic friendly' engine made. They are easy to work on, and once set, will run for a very long time. Nice project, keep the...

    Look what followed me home

It's OK to covet all things OD; just don't covet thy neighbor's wife! [that can be EVEN MORE expensive!] my neighbor's wife has built-in anti-covet gear,no problem here. Mule would be the cool toy needed to gather firewood from by back lot, need to put one on the...

Coolant in oil, can it be separated?

WAY to much thinking on this subject. 1. Put suspect mix,(co-mingled oil/anti) in a drum with a drain at the bottom, let sit. 2.Open drain. 3. When anti stops flowing and oil shows, close drain. 4. What remains is oil. 5. Decant from top. My shop has been using waste oil heaters for 30 years...
