My brother in law was giving me grief about driving a "fuel hog" M35A2. This is from someone who has a late 90's Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 V10 that gets 7mpg! I get 10 mpg and I can run 1/2 diesel, 1/2 used motor oil. In effect I am paying for fuel in a 20mpg vehicle.
If it a REO M35 style truck, and you DO NOT have an air shift transfer case, you will need desplined front drive flanges AND you will need to remove the front drive shaft. If you have an airshift transfer case, you can have a set of drive flanges de-splined on a lathe and you will be fine. I...
I saw a pic of a Navy base in the early sixties and there was a battleship grey deuce out on a pier. Only saw the one pic, a couple of years ago. Can't remember where. I've never seen a grey deuce in person, anyone else ever see one?
That one was Red wasn't it? It takes a lot of red to cover well. Probably sprayed with an electrostatic gun. Charges the paint and it goes to the grounded metal like a magnet. The 4000 gallon tank would take a lot by itself.
For what it's worth, at MCLB Albany they told me that 2 gallons of...
Are you reducing it too far? It is a really full bodied paint, best applied with a pressure feed gun. A siphon feed cup gun will take forever and produce lots of overspray (wasted paint)
CARC is supposed to go one in one coat. It is not recommended to build too much, or you will have cracking issues. Too thick a coat is as bad as too thin. At the Marine depot in Albany Ga. the trucks get one good wet coat.
When you are spraying those high viscosity waterbornes and CARC substitutes you need a pressure feed gun. A siphon gun will take forever!
Harbor Freight has a nice cheapie for less than $40, Northern Tools has one in the $60 range. Basically, you get a gun, a 2 qt paint canister, and the hoses...
Towbar end after machining.
Here are some pics of the end I machined. I faced off top and bottom sides pretty equally on the Bridgeport with a carbide face mill. I have a regular medium towbar end like this out in the shop, it matches my machined one well. The color is because I threw it on the...
Take a paimt sample to a SW store and tell them you are painting a metal building. They have some flat letexes that are extremely durable, match well, and are incredibly flexible. This keeps the paint from wanting to crack and peel in extremely cold weather. I painted a rusty steel sign frame 14...
RE: Re: RE: Towbar adapter machining... rdixiemiller?
I can machine the adapters without too much trouble. The bushing I use is available at Tractor Supply, I think mine was $4 or so. Send them too me and I'll ut them down for you.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: M35 canvas top dimensions... anyone?
Send me your addy, I have a top that has come unstitched that I will send you to use as a pattern.
Re: RE: Going to get my GL Deuce!
I like that location better than in the hood side panel. Methinks I'll make a scoop and install it there to re-locate mine.
Mine came with a drivers side springer, I added one on the pax side. I am getting ready to pull the pax springer out and go back with the bench seat. Using the area between the seats for storage ends up being a mess, I am going to build a locking box to go under the pax bench seat. If the spring...
Not sure on an armor application, but the old Vertex magnetos on drag cars used a grounding wire to kill the ignition. Opening the kill circuit would allow the mag to fire. All the mags I worked on did not require any external voltage source to make spark.
If they ever overheat and blow the head gasket, it needs to be resurfaced. The old steel shim gaskets also had a tendency to rust through over the years. The modern composite gaskets are much better at sealing than the older types.
Mine had just the inner nuts on the rear when I got it. I replaced them with front nuts from E-Bay, less than $25 for 24 of them. I would be more afraid of the nuts failing, plus they look goofy.
10-4. I just remember having an old Scott outboard motor. Good motor, but you couldn't buy any parts for it. So, when the water pump quit, I ended up junking it. I tend to be a little leery of stuff if I am not sure of the parts situation.
That's why I love my deuce!
