Next chapter will deal with OE. We did meet all of the LMTV folks. The 'travel trailer' guys happen to also be based in Gardnerville. We will not be going that route. One of the trucks running the Michelin's suffered a blowout on their trip to the event. A couple of us marveled at why they would...
I will have it in hand later this week, and will continue the post and story with repair photos then, thanks!
I am told that most folks just use a punch and hammer in the little mounting homes to get them out. This can ruin the mounting holes. TM specifies 50# torque using the tool, so i...
Just got home last evening after a howling rain storm all the way from Fallon to Gardnerville. I had the new part sent to Cashman in Sparks and will collect it later this week.
Chapter Two...
That night I logged into the hotel Wi-Fi and learned as much as I could about the 3116 fuel system and this evil 'Solenoid'. I also learned that they were only $80.00 or so on two popular on-line sites. The only problem there was that the nearest one was only days away, as in...
Chapter 1.
We had been planning a long trip in 'Thor' for some time. Overland Expo seemed like a great way to test the recent modifications made and see some beautiful country at the same time.
We departed Gardnerville, NV at a decent morning hour on Tuesday the 15th. The goal was to travel...
OK, I ordered a GPS type unit that should match the hole in the panel. I only needs power, a ground and a small gps sensor, that I will test out by taping in an inconspicuous spot on the windshield. We'll see how it does on our way to Overland Expo...

Guess I'll pop the cab and head in there with a magnet tonight and check mine before our trip. Great call, thanks and sorry to the current victims of fan failure..

Mkcoen,
I did notice on my clutch (rebuild thread here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?155684-Yet-another-M-1078-Fan-Clutch-thread&highlight=) that I have the newer housing with the holes and studs, instead of bolts. Is this type of failure due to the bolts holding the fan on...
I don't recall seeing a cut out or cam cut into the bottom of the hub. I will look when I get my old steering wheel off and report back.
One could adapt a timer to the current setup, but I kinda like the basic mechanical nature of the thing.

I am dropping my steering about 1", but hesitate going any lower due to interference with the blinker lever. Sup[posed to have it back before this Friday, so we will see...

I have been using a phone app called Rally Blitz. It works well, but I want the phone reserved for other duties. Plus this app really sucks power out of the phone so it needs to be plugged in to power at all times. With dimensions I can get the right replacement and just drop it in.

I am considering replacing the stock speedo in my A-0 truck with one of the GPS type units that are prevalent on the online auction sites.
Has anyone here done this?
Can anyone tell me the diameter of the mounting hole on the A-0 trucks for the speedo?
Pointman
So here is what the hub looks like stripped of the steering wheel.. My machinist friend is adding more material to bring the diameter out to match the new 18" steering wheel mounting bolt holes.
Will have it back hopefully tomorrow..:naner:

I should have my adapter back from the machine shop this week and can share a photo. I'll be using a Forever Sharp 18" steering wheel with a soft feel rim.
Anything will feel better that this 'bus' model that comes stock. Yes, I am in the camp with a spouse that wants less 'tank' and more...
Yeah, Don't drive your truck across country from PA to NV and then discover that the cab has Air Suspension when you get home... aua
I now leave mine on always.

Unless reserved ahead of time we all will be in what is described as 'Dispersed Camping', which is behind the event area in the pines. We are heading down Tuesday and will be there camping Wednesday. I think we may be a finalist in the 'Beauty Contest', so that means downtown Flagstaff on...
