It's not a fuel issue. Kieth hit the nail on the head. It is either the oil pressure switch or the high temp shutdown switch. Both can be jumpered out to test and verify which one is the offending switch.

Sorry to hear it's already dead. If he decided to run it any length of time without the converter locked, that could be what killed it. Even with the cooler, those trannys don't like being unlocked.
You'll need to install something to lock the torque converter. The 700R4 will not like to drive for any amount of time in OD without the converter locked. While you are at it, you might want to make provisions to manually lock it in 3rd gear if you plan on using 3rd for any length of time vs...
After reading throuigh this thread, I am more happy than ever that I have access to the hose, fittings and crimper here at work. I never thought about it, but I probably saved about $2500 to $3500 in hoses when I re-build the hydraulics on my backhoe

Since you said the generator works with one box but not the other, I would suspect a wiring issue in the non working box. The field excitation wires go from the VR through the voltage / phase selector box and out to the gen head. Quite possibly one or both of those wires are not hooked up or...
