Water can do that. That is how I fried mine. Thing literally belched enough smoke to make me think it was on fire.

The temro(aka zerostart) is all you should need unless you live in Antarctica. I have the 600w Temro and my truck has had no issue starting in -15f actual temp(not wind chill).
