Not so much the electronics, but the DC voltage regulator doesn't like the voltage spike, and niether do the capicitors on the fuel pumps....most of the DC components will not like a voltage spike like that.
Do yourself a favor and get a pair of batteries for the generator. If you can't afford...

I don't know of any "Common" failures Most of the people who have troubles with them are due to their own mistakes. Like Gary said, don't idle the engine, don't remove the batteries while it's running to see if your charging system will keep it running. Don't hold the start switch for more...
For what you're getting out of the deal, $1000 isn't too bad of a price. If it's rewound to military specs, you'll never buy a 3 phase motor that big for that cheap. You'll most definitely save money if you find a used one....but is the used one going to be in the same condition as the one you...
I used to have a good line on the IBC's but it dried up...the company at work that supplied ours has since started picking them back up when they are empty. They used to not care about them....but I guess the prices have been climbing and now they want to re-use them.

This discussion has raged on for at least the past 2 years that I have been a member. One person says to fill it full, and the other says leave it 1/2 to 1" below the fill plug.

If you have a copy of the TM, the air pack should have been bled first, then move to the farthest wheel from the MC (right rear tandem)...keep moving closer as you bleed each wheel. End up at the front drivers
