I think there is a pic of the front in the GA Rally 2010 picture thread. also check the pictures in post #42 of this thread. It is before the installation was complete, but does show the relative position of the unit and the top of the cab. Cab is visible at the very bottom right of the second...
You need to search the M109 conversions threads. Both have been done. In the front, over the cab can be seen in the "A Different Kind of M109 Conversion".
Commander5993,
An A2 tops out at 55, and A3 tops out at 52, unless you want to send a rod through the side of the block. For reliability and comfort in a cross country road trip, get a U-Haul, Penske or Ryder truck, either rental, or purchase a used one and work on it. For the SHTF...
motor vehicle VIN's are 17 digits. This is a trailer, made some years ago, so the rules are not quite the same. Here in SC, the county (property) tax people get the first shot and when the VIN they put on your tax receipt matches the SF-97, the highway dept just calls over a supervisor to put...
Soak those bearings in straight "SIMPLE GREEN" for about two days, then roll them about and see how much cleans up. Then wash off with diesel, let dry and inspect.
Landfillman,
The article in the paper that went with the headline detailed exactly how the trucks got there and why they eventually went to the furnace. Check with them > Biloxi, Gulfport and South Mississippi's News Leader | Sun Herald for a reprint of the article. It was an interesting...
The trucks in Saucier, MS are gone! I have sitting in front of me a copy of the Sun Herald, dated Dec 3, 2010, and the headline tells it all - see attached.
N20junkie,
I have a 6500 btu/h unit in my M109 Pantry that keeps it cool in this SC heat. The Army had modified my front 'window' area so where I got the unit installed is a good sized gap above the cab. See more pics in my thread "A Different kind of M109 Conversion".
720 is a 3.5 ton dolly, 832 is a 5.5 ton dolly that has the same attaching points. 720 uses smaller tires than the 832 (832 uses deuce tires - 9.00 x 20). HTH
M-59 Field Range was originally issued with an M-2 gasoline burner, and most of the TM is concerned with that piece of crap and not the range itself. The mythical 'reasonable man' either converts the M-2 to propane, or uses an MBU in it's place. Those who insist on using the gasoline version...
Radio's would be tube type if WWII & Korean era. Hard to keep finding parts for those old boatanchors. There are groups of collectors of the tube radios on Yahoo Groups (and other places). Biggest problem using them is that the spectrum allocations have changed and those radios are restricted...
Ziggy,
All the CAMBRO info is on the "MKT THUMB DRIVE" (which has it's own thread). The Military uses the 'polaware' 1/3 inserts with a sealing cover. The gaskets for those covers run a tad north of $21 each, although beltfed34 on e-bay had some packs of them in the spring of 2010 for a very...
If you are going to keep the GI lights in the ceiling, I would suggest opening them up and painting inside the reflectors with some high temperature white paint. The metal might be shiny, but the white paint will give you a lot more illumination (or allow lower wattage bulbs).2cents
My 109's are not going to be RV's. They both will be pantry's for the MKT. One is already done (see the thread "A different kind of M109 conversion") and I hope to start on the second one this winter. Main difference will be that the second one will have a freezer and a horizontal...
All this talk had me looking on what my local county covered, and I found the following on the County Web site. Note items 7, 9, and 10. HOA's can have more restrictive rules, but I don't live in one!
Lots of folks here in the Columbia area, but I'm not aware of anyone that has or has contemplated building a bobber.
There may be one or more at the GA Rally in October, as we are expecting over 100 military vehicles.2cents
