    Painting my M1008

Well, I have two M1008's thanks to a moment of weakness early this summer, and due to other projects (house) I haven't done much with them. Since it's more than time for one of them to go, and only one is currently a driver, I'm painting it in celebration of the unseasonably warm weather this...

    What is it?

Hey fellas, look at the hub shot again. Someone already flipped the hubs, so the track should be the same front and rear. (There's no hub center sticking out like pre-flip.) I think it just looks funny because instead of using front style lug nuts, they reused the bud caps, so they stick...

Confused about wheel bearings and lube on deuce

I have a leaking inner seal on my deuce (90 wt dumping out onto the wheel) and when I pulled out the axle, there was no outer seal. This means that the NG unit that was taking care of my truck evidently didn't believe in greasing the bearings, but just planned to let 90wt lube them. I have...

    CJ10A Tug

Should have a 727 trans, and a D20 transfer case that's been shifted into 4 low. Nissan diesel, likely similar (or the same) to the one that came in early 80's scouts with a turbo. D70 rear axle I think. Toss a nice 60 up front and put a shifter on the t-case and you're in business!! I...

    Check out my rear end.....

Yeah, that's a D70. The 60 housing isn't quite so wide. You'll find a nice "D70" mark on the pig somewhwere near a side web. I think GM put the D70 in dually trucks with huge GVW's, where the 14 bolt wasn't heavy enough. Dodge used them in duallys forever too. I like the overload...

Just blew the rear in my '86 m1009

Whatever you do, don't spend money to fix that 10 bolt if you plan to keep the truck! Unless you really want it original, change the rear axle to a 12 bolt or 9.5" 14 bolt. The 12 bolt came in 1/2 ton trucks up to about 1980 or 81. It has an 8.875" ring gear compared to the 10 bolt's 8.5...

    noob with questions

Looks like spacers on the back, as I can't see the center of the hubs protruding like they should on a 14 bolt. I have 2" spacers on mine to get the track equal, but they'd allow duals too. Me likes it's "younger brother"!!! Box on mine is... er, used... A flatbed with removable low sides...

    towing

Airtech, glad to see you're getting a trailer... BUT... You'll notice that everyone you hear talking about that is talking gooseneck... There's a reason for that... Please make sure you have good tongue weight on the back of the truck. And stop calling your E350 or whatever it is a...

    Batteries

I went to the local junkyard... For $25 each they have tested take-outs with no warranty other than if you get it home and it's junk, they'll give you another. (If asked, they'll bust out the tester for you, so you can see that they're good batteries before you take them. Better yet, for $35...

    towing

The issue with flat-towing any Deuce isn't so much the weight, as the fact that these trucks are set up with virtually no caster. Caster is what makes the wheels want to self-steer when led. (think shopping cart front wheels with the swivel in front of the wheel center... Now move the swivel...

    New to me CUCV's...

RE: Re: RE: New to me CUCV I'd be looking for $1600 for the camo truck right now. That's what I have in it. It'll need a battery, as I'm keeping the two good ones for my Deuce, but I'll toss in the one good one from the other truck. Drove it around the other day... Steering is loose...

New MV Owner (Recovery Completed, Pics)

Jim and CCATLETT, I posted pics of my Lansing finds in another thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=24555 Sorry I didn't mention that. It is funny that the blazer that I was hoping to get is now up for auction again... Turns out I got the two trucks...

Deuce trans pushing/falling out of 5th...

Ok, so I'm heading north this weekend to do some trans dis-assembly... I read the service manual, and words above, but I'm wondering what exactly a "real good puller" is... I have a big 3-jaw puller that I've used before, as well as a HD bearing separator... What are you guys using to get...

My latest project (M1008 350CI Swap)

I'd bet most, if not all 3/4 and 1-ton chevy vans are hydroboost as well. I believe they are ALL hydroboost right now. Parts are out there, just find an old junkyard with trucks. C

New trailer... Needs landing leg bracket.

It's bigger than an 8 foot pickup box inside, but I can't say exactly as it's now at my buddy's place about 60 miles from here. Should be no problem to put an ATV in it! Thanks for the suggestions Neil and Maddog!! C

New trailer... Needs landing leg bracket.

Pics of my new 101A1. The good: Has a stellar solid body, four gas can mounts, and a slave recepticle on the front. (probably a gen trailer?) Even has the rear landing leg. Good tires too! The bad: Needs the folding bracket for the landing leg, as it was broken off and laying...

    New to me CUCV's...

Was using another thread, but it's getting long... Anyway, I finally picked up my two new 1008's. Was unsure if one was going to be a 1008 or a 1009, as there was a photo swap on GL, but I knew that when I bid. Both trucks from Lansing, MI yard. Camo truck fired right up on it's own...

New MV Owner (Recovery Completed, Pics)

My EUC is approved, and I'm picking up Friday morning. I just talked to Joe today, who's the GL rep for Lansing, MI sales where my stuff is... (he called me!!) Borrowing a 2 car gooseneck from work for the trucks, and just quickly stashing the trailer at my GF's house nearby...

    Now how did this happen???

Hey guys, unless I missed something, this is not unusual... The end time is only met if there has been no bidding activity in the last 15 minutes. It's in the GL FAQ: http://www.govliquidation.com/help/details.html#q_25 So lots only close on their given time if nobody has bid in the...

Deuce trans pushing/falling out of 5th...

Thanks for the replies fellas!! I appreciate the pics G, and glad to hear that I can pull the main shaft w/o removing the trans. I really don't want to try pulling a trans out of a deuce... Particularly not with the winch PTO on it and all... I'll find a nice flexible magnet for the...
