If I had Schwarz's bank roll, I would've opted for a U500 or U2450. The front guard doesn't flatter the truck...neither does the triple tube roll bar.
Still though--- GO MOG! :)
I also forgot I turned up the fuel a just a touch, and bumped up the governor just a little too but only for loaded gear changes not for open road wide open throttle...no way. Too many sets of gears flying around.
I'm pretty sure it's 6.527:1 when you calculate both ratios together; the ring and pinion and the set in the portal box. I didn't know you had the torque converter truck- yep, they're slower but rated to pull something like 300 TONS, a buddy of mine has one.
Check your filters or run the tire size through a speed calculator like at randy's ring and pinion.com. I'm at a GPS'd 52mph wide open and cruise at 40-43mph usually.
Not sure what Mog you were looking at but a 15.50 or 395/85R20 at 46" is big and for any suspension articulation needs a 3" cab lift...I'm talking 406/416 trucks. Not so sure on the 1300 and up 'square cab' dealies though they have a little more room. Still a heavy tire on what's usually not a...
My most humblest apologies for the thread hijack...but is the best balance for 1400x20's on CTIS trucks the three nut truck on the opposite side on the bead lock bolts or has someone come up with a specific weight for a one stud weight? I searched and found mostly A3 stuff not M939 series...
I added a post a while ago about this. It not the low and reverse that can hurt the case, it's low reverse AND the automatic engagement of the front axle. The rear tandems will spin since they share so much weight and are effectivlely 'lighter' than the front. The friggin front axle is over...
How about turn up the CAT, cool the trans, and put on 46's. 46's get the speed, the turned up CAT will help turn them and pull the load. Drive it a gear lower until on the highway. My 225hp NA 1160 CAT did well when kept spooled up tow bar pulling another winch truck. My CAT/Crane truck is...
Keep an eye on the Unimog Exchange or talk to a couple of the Mog places to see what they turn up. There's AG stuff available but usually they're only speed rated to 25mph -ish usually which even for a Mog is a little low.
Some guys are running 395/85 R20 XML's or XL's with a cab...
AH, HAHAHAHAAhahahahahahahaaaaaa...that's funny! Okay...well, I'm to that point (no pressure, you know ;) ) so let me know when you find it! I'm gonna run out of pine trees to pull over soon to tide me over!
I was just today looking at the engine thinking of trying to find one...
They are DOT legal Michelin Radials. 405/70 R20 XM-47. Google XM 47 and sit down for pricing results. Michelin is REALLY proud of them. Continental makes a similar tire but the cost is still way, way up. MITAS in Europe makes an equivilent size and look tire, but I'm not sure if it's a...
We're running! Thank you Will! Gave me a couple things to look for AND pressurizing the tank was key. I cracked the IN line to the big primary filter and pressurized the tank and nothing...looked at the splitter under the cab, thought, "no friggin way..." flipped the manual tank select valve...
